Hilton Garden Inn Frederick

The pool was out of order because of a sprinkler problem, and there wasn’t a hot tub despite the ad showing one. The listing hadn’t been updated. I thought about leaving and booking elsewhere, and wish I had. Another place could have cost half as much and included breakfast. The room had all kinds of problems. The tissue box in the bathroom was wet, and the tissues stuffed into the top were wet too. I pulled them out to reach fresh ones, then threw the whole thing away. When the room phone didn’t work, I called the front desk on my cell, and they promptly brought a new box. The climate controls were confusing: there was a unit by the window and a thermostat on the opposite wall. I couldn’t stop the cold fan by raising the temperature, or by switching off the unit at the thermostat. An engineer came up, took apart the window unit, and turned off a switch. After 10:30 that night, the desk knocked because another room had the same issue. The engineer was gone, so I showed the staff member how to disable it. The coffee machine wouldn’t power on in the morning, and its plug was buried below the refrigerator, which also didn’t work. There was no tea, paper, or pencil in the room. Bottled water provided only for some guests felt rude. Outside, someone had left dog poop right by the front doors. The front desk person knew about it but said the people who handle that wouldn’t arrive for another hour, so guests had to walk past it. I usually leave five-star reviews and give feedback at the desk, but this place needs a warning. Horrible.

I was even able to charge my car in the parking lot. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and there was plenty of hot coffee and iced water. Every staff member I met was friendly and helpful. The gentleman who made my breakfast to order deserves a special mention. I’d gladly return and recommend it.

The pillows were far too soft, and there weren’t any other options. We were exhausted and frustrated by then, so we didn’t feel up to calling the front desk. I’m strongly considering filing a complaint with the Disability department. This isn’t the first hotel that has done a poor job accommodating someone in my position. I’m a quadriplegic and was traveling to Frederick, MD for a wedding on Oct 24th. I made the reservation in February 2025 and repeatedly asked for an accessible room with a lower-than-usual bed. I can’t stand, and my husband uses a transfer board to move me between my manual wheelchair and the bed. Unfortunately, the bed wasn’t level with my wheelchair. My husband already has back problems, and it was extremely difficult for him to lift me instead of using the board we brought. The bathroom sink was also too high for a quadriplegic woman in a manual wheelchair to see her hands, brush her teeth, and so on. I couldn’t reach the faucet. The room’s main door wouldn’t stay open on its own, so my husband had to hold it with one leg while pulling me into the room. Thank you for your time.

The kind, professional Hilton staff were great. We were traveling for family tragedies, and the gentleman kindly covered breakfast for us even though guests are supposed to pay. Thank you for that. My fiancé found the bed a bit uncomfortable. If you served in the military, you might love it, haha. The TV in room 429 kept flickering in and out, but it was still good enough. Internet download speed was 1-4MBS.
