Best Western Desert Villa Inn

The bed was very comfortable, breakfast was very good and clean, and the internet was working the next day. That improved things, but there were plenty of problems during my stay. I've spent 33 nights at Best Westerns over the last year as an elite member, and this location had gravel and parking areas coated in poop. Inside, the room was clean and nicely painted, with decent furniture and good floors. The air conditioning and heater worked well, but the sink dripped constantly. When I tried to shower, the shower head blew off and sprayed water everywhere. I couldn't get anyone at the desk to answer the phone, so we cleaned it up ourselves. The WiFi wasn't working when I reported it a couple of hours earlier or when I checked again. The old style TVs don't stream. You get the main four networks, CW, PBS, some oldies channels, and a couple of Spanish channels. Super long cargo trains pass about once an hour, maybe 100yds across the road. If you like that kind of background noise to fall asleep, it helps. My white noise alexa device couldn't connect to the internet.

Jenny went out of her way to help when I'd forgotten a travel item, and I can't say enough good things about her and the rest of the staff. The rooms are modern and the whole place is super clean. It's an amazing hotel for the price. If you're in Barstow and need somewhere to stay, go here. I was pleasantly surprised and definitely wasn't disappointed. Thanks, Jenny and staff.

The breakfast was no joke, better than what I had at the hotel I stayed at for Disneyland. If I'm in Barstow again, I'd definitely return. The hotel is beautiful and comfortable, and the staff were great. The gentleman I first spoke with checked that there was space for my truck and trailer, and the lady there when I arrived was so friendly.

We'd been Best Western members for years and almost always stayed at BW hotels with our dog. Those stays had been excellent, but this one was awful. We checked in Saturday, Nov 29 at around 4:30 p.m. and left around 6:00, giving up our $92 payment to get out of there. A woman who checked in before us was heading back to the lobby looking freaked out. She said the clerk had given them a room that was already occupied, and she and her husband had walked in on the people staying there. Our own room had a really strong pet odor. We've stayed in dozens of pet rooms, including two other clean, odor-free BW hotels on this trip, and never had one smell like this. My wife asked if there was another room, but was told all the pet rooms were occupied and they all smelled that way because they were pet rooms. We brought our bags in, thinking maybe we'd get used to it. The floor looked dirty. We wiped it with a damp washcloth, which came up black with dirt, not just dust. We used a hand towel to clean it as best we could and called for a fresh one. The office said they couldn't bring it up, but we could take the dirty towel over for an exchange. When my wife did that, the clerk said we'd probably have to pay for it, even though it was dirty and undamaged. The clerk also said they didn't give refunds. A few minutes later our bank alerted us that it had declined a $50 charge from Best Western. Then there were two more attempts to charge $25. Apparently, it was for that dirty but undamaged hand towel. It felt like an attempted theft to us. By then we didn't feel safe and decided to forfeit the payment and leave. A few blocks away, the Q Inn had pet rooms available for about the same price as Desert Villa Inn. The room was clean and smelled lightly of fresh linens. We were curious whether all hotel floors were dirty, so we wiped that one with a damp washcloth too. It came up clean. We'll never stay at Desert Villa Inn again. Traveler beware.
