Holiday Inn Express & Suites Barstow - Route 66 by IHG

We hardly saw anyone else around, and it was a weekday, so breakfast was pretty bare-bones. The room itself was very comfortable, though, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel stay was good, and I was only there for one night while passing through. What stood out the next morning was how little acknowledgment guests seemed to get. I encountered eight employees across the front desk, breakfast area, and room service, and none seemed upbeat or smiled while dealing with guests. I also watched other interactions, so it didn’t seem to be just me. The staff appeared to get along well with each other, which made the contrast noticeable. I understand some mornings are hard, but guest-facing staff still need to be attentive. I hope senior management addresses it, since people spend so much of their working day in that environment.

We really enjoyed staying here and felt spoiled by the Managers Reception dinner Tuesday through Thursday. The location was great, the place was clean, and we liked the breakfast too.

The room was comfortable, and the night clerk was pleasant, but it badly needs updating. The carpet was gross, the wallpaper was peeling, and the side door lock was broken. Breakfast was average. I saw a staff member fill a water bottle with juice, with the mouthpiece touching the dispenser. The kitchen manager was right there and didn’t seem concerned, so we decided not to eat.
