Route 66 Barstow Hotel

There were people coming and going from several rooms when I arrived, which made the place feel sketchy. I asked to cancel, but the desk clerk said I still had to pay for one night. When I got out $40 to cover the $34.99, the clerk said, “oh I wore the wrong pants.” The room had no curtains, no pillows, and the bedspread and white sheets looked filthy, as if they weren't being washed. For a couple dollars more, the Ramada is much better. Please don't stay here.

At the motel 66*, at the crossroads of opportunity on Muriel and Main, you can apparently enjoy mice, cockroaches, and bedbugs in your room. It has the feel of the lawless Wild West from before sheriffs and star badges existed, in a building that seems nowhere near code standards. There may be no key for the front door, no security cameras, laundry service, reliable management, or mail delivery. And toilet paper isn't provided.

I paid for a room but couldn't check in because nobody was at the reception desk. No one answered the phone or replied through booking, and I still haven't received a refund. Not recommended. Save your time and money and book somewhere else.

Before booking, I asked the front desk about a military discount and the person hung up on me. I got the impression he didn't like the question, and feel it may have been because of my military status. I'd strongly recommend staying at another hotel.
