Best Western Crown Inn & Suites

I’m giving this hotel the five stars it deserves. Our room for a long overdue weekend getaway was spacious and clean, though we were short a couple of washcloths. The staff were warm and accommodating, and I wish I’d noted each person’s name so I could thank them individually. Breakfast was a fun, generous spread, including hot options and a waffle iron with batter for guests. It was a nice warm start to the Bills Game, and the city was great for a long weekend. Good value, and we’ll absolutely stay again. The trouble during our stay came from a youth hockey team in our hallway, possibly other halls too. The children weren’t the problem. Kids around 8 to 10, some younger ones, and toddlers were often left unsupervised, running around and playing hockey. I nearly tripped over a ball they were passing, so I asked them not to practice by our door. They were polite until adults told them they could practice anywhere. The parents were rude and bullied us whenever we asked for the hallway practice to stop. We ended up eating breakfast in our room. The team’s adults were clearly unwelcoming, and I saw a large group confront a Desk Lady in front of the children. On Friday night into Saturday morning, the parents were drinking and playing beer pong in the dining area while the children were still running around unsupervised. At 12:37 AM, I went downstairs for hot tea and noticed the second-floor hall and the restroom near the desk smelled of marijuana smoking or vaping. Shame on you, "Team Leadership". I hope your children had a wonderful tournament without picking up YOUR POOR BEHAVIOR!

The beds were comfortable, and our basic room even had a refrigerator, though the website description didn’t mention one. It was clean and didn’t smell musty. The one thing that wasn’t clean enough was the shower floor, which looked moldy. Otherwise, it’s the kind of chain hotel where you pretty much know what you’re getting before you arrive.

We had three rooms and won’t be coming back. The hot tub is no longer in use, and the service was awful. I’ve never met front desk workers who seemed to hate their jobs more. There was no soap in the bathrooms, and they made a big deal of giving me some. Getting towels for the pool was a hassle too. I heard someone on the phone bad-mouthing guests who came to breakfast 15 minutes before closing. The pool was supposed to open at 9 a.m., but the door was still locked at 9:40. When I asked them to open it, I was told, “I have been too busy.” Well, I’m sorry, but that’s your job.

The mattress was just okay, and I wish the heating or air conditioning could be directed upward instead of blowing onto whoever sleeps nearest to it. Service was very nice. The location was mostly okay, better than some other areas, but there’s an apartment building across the parking lot, and some nights the residents were loud, possibly doing things that weren’t legal. A fence might help improve the ratings here. The rooms were very clean.
