Best Western Executive Inn

The staff were great, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Traffic made the location rough, but that’s not the hotel’s fault. Culvers was built there and brought the traffic problems.

Don’t stay here. We arrived around 3:30 pm, but couldn’t get into a room until 4:00 or 4:10. First the front desk lady gave us a room with a maintenance guy inside, then a second room where the cleaning lady was still working. The third room was visibly dirty, with gross, sticky counters and mold all over the sheer window curtain. On our second night, sugar ants appeared out of nowhere and covered the floor. When we asked the front desk lady about a refund at checkout, she said no. This place is way too expensive for such poor, unclean rooms.

The rooms were fairly clean, the beds were comfortable, and the location just off the highway was handy. That’s all the good I can say after my three-night stay last week. We arrived at 1:45 pm on a Wednesday, and the lobby smelled like stale cigarettes mixed with sewer odor. With nobody else around and our room already ready, we were still turned away from early check-in because, the receptionist said, it was only allowed at 2 pm. Normal check-in was 3 pm, so we waited outside in the rental car for fifteen minutes. She seemed sorry, but it wasn’t her call. The pool photos are misleading. The pool was dark and gloomy, and we didn’t want to use it. I didn’t see any other guests use it either. In the room, the door’s security latch was loose, and dried white paint was spilled on the inside handle. Hot water took ages to arrive, and the shower drained so slowly we stood in an inch of water. The metal bed frame clanged loudly enough to wake us whenever we moved, and a broken plug piece stuck in the wall outlet made the bedside outlets unusable. Breakfast was already messy and uninviting shortly after it opened at 6 am. We tried it at 7 on the first morning, then went out to buy breakfast for that day and the rest of our stay. On our second morning, two staff members chatted at the front desk, with one person’s half-smoked cigarette left on the edge beside a lighter. Absolutely disgusting. I’d strongly recommend Courtyard By Marriot or one of the other higher-end hotels a few miles away. They were unfortunately already booked when I painstakingly made reservations at this Best Western. Never again.

The new housekeepers really stay on top of things. They keep the rooms very clean, and the pool and workout room are clean too. Breakfast is good as well. I’m definitely coming back to this motel when I’m back in town.
