Holiday Inn Battle Creek by IHG

I used to love this hotel, but the staff only act as if they can help. I asked the desk and manager whether the pool would open. They had no estimate, and offered to cancel my reservation, so I found another hotel with a pool and canceled. When I checked on the refund, they claimed I had stayed in the room. I didn’t get a receipt, but I did hand my key back to the desk clerk. At least there are several newer hotels in the area I can use now. It’s a sad reflection on a good hotel brand.

My room was clean, breakfast was included, and the kids had fun in the pool. The problem was Angela, the night worker, who was rude about my son’s birthday party. Staff had seen the party and seemed fine with it. We cleaned up and tried to be respectful, but she still found something to complain about. This came after I’d made several trips up and down because the card wouldn’t unlock my door and I kept having to get a replacement key. Complaining about the party on top of that was crazy.

The location is handy for restaurants and shopping centers. My room was clean, odor-free, and everything worked except the bathroom fan. The tub was spotless and I felt comfortable taking a bath, though it was quite slippery, so be careful if you have children or someone who might fall. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was a little concerned when I saw tape holding the hallway carpet together, but the room itself was clean.

There are lots of places to eat nearby, and both the room and pool were clean. The loud PTAC units were the downside in the room. Service wasn’t quite there either: I went downstairs for help and had to wait while the front desk staff sat casually with a couple of guests. Still, it was a good stay and I’d come back.
