The photos on the website look wonderful, but the actual stay fell short. They say the hotel has 47 rooms, yet breakfast seating seemed to fit 25 guests at most, if even that. The breakfast disappointed too: leathery ham served in a Dutch oven and unappetizing grocery store boiled eggs. The preserves were the one good part. Room 10, formerly occupied by Julia Roberts, had a comfortable bed, but the wallpaper was peeling and the bathroom fixtures were dated without being charmingly so. Furnishings were chipped and scuffed. There were no bathrobes, slippers, or body lotion, and only three small towels for two people. The place markets itself as five-star, but I'd call it a three-star B&B.

The staff member we interacted with was very nice, and the Inn itself was beautiful, especially the staircase. We came to Beaufort for a Valentine's weekend getaway and picked it for its closeness to downtown and the riverfront. Check-in was smooth. Our third-floor room was clean but surprisingly tiny, with little space and only a couple of robes for amenities. The bed was too hard for us, though it might suit someone who likes a firm mattress. The continental breakfast was disappointing, and for over $300 for one night, the value just wasn't there. I was shocked by the cost afterward. If you want a historic feel close to downtown, you might love the place. I would suggest Hotels.com or the Inn post room dimensions, since knowing how small ours was probably would have kept me from choosing it.

I never had to move my car for the three days I was here, and the location is easily the best part. The main house and grounds were decorated beautifully for the holidays. I stayed in the Garden Cottage, which I believe is their only non-historic building. The room was lovely and clean, though the drapes on the very tall windows were hard to manage. The bathroom looked nice but wasn't practical. The shower and tub need safety rails instead of just towel racks, and the clawfoot tub needs a simple spot for soap and shampoo. There should also be more counter space, shelves, and outlets. Breakfast was lacking in both variety and replenishment. I should have called before booking to ask about the extra taxes and fees that weren't shown on the reservation page. That little asterisk added $150.

Celia (SP?) was on point with hospitality, and the staff were welcoming. The room was clean and quiet, with a nice balcony, and there was plenty of off-street parking. The Beaufort Inn is within walking distance of lots to do, and it has much more character than a mainstream franchise hotel. I had a great stay, would recommend it to friends, and hope to return.

We brought our two dogs, and they had water bowls, our dog bed, and a doggy bag ready for them. The place was beautiful, cozy, and clean in the off-season, and you can tell they pay attention to detail. The location was excellent too. We'd definitely come back!
