Hampton Inn Beaufort

The room was what I'd expect from a standard chain hotel. But the elevator wasn't working, so we had to carry our bags up to the second floor. They did offer to help. I would've considered that a deal breaker if I'd known in advance, and the posted notes made it look like the elevator had been out for a while.

The handicap room was so dark that even with every lamp on, it felt like a cave. It takes about five minutes for the water to get hot, and all the in-room coffee was decaf, with none available at the front desk. I've only been here an hour and I'm already very disappointed. I won't be back, especially with lots of other choices nearby.

The rooms were clean enough, but housekeeping never came by. We had to ask at the front desk for fresh towels, and the staff were mostly unhelpful. I understand renovations are underway, but the elevator stopped working and nobody seemed to be trying to fix it. My wife and I are both in our 70s and have bad knees, so we rely on things like that to get to our second-floor room. When I could get the desk clerk's attention away from her phone, all she offered was “sorry.” We somehow got through the night. I'm leaving in the morning, and doubt I'll ever return.

The elevator is out while renovations are going on. Getting up and down wasn't a huge issue, but the doors slamming and people using the stairs made a lot of noise all morning, day, and night. I hadn't expected that.
