When the worst winter storm in decades hit Beaufort, our boat, Safari, wasn’t keeping us warm. I’d called the Inlet Inn beforehand and explained our situation to Sara, asking whether a room might be available if the weather got worse. She was so gracious, and when the snow kept piling up and our heaters couldn’t keep pace, she told us to come over. From there, everything was easy. Check-in went smoothly, they brought firewood for the fireplace and asked if we needed anything else, then took our breakfast order for the next morning. Our room was charming and bigger than expected, with a king bed, fridge, comfortable chairs by the fire, and a patio looking out over Taylor’s Creek. It was beautiful in the snow. Bill and the rest of the staff were kind and attentive the whole time. We’re living aboard for the winter, and the Inlet Inn really took care of us. Jamie, Lisa and Beau

We’re already talking about making this an annual trip. The staff were among the friendliest and most accommodating I’ve encountered in a while, and the free continental breakfast was a delicious start to each day. Roof work was happening at the hotel, so we were moved to a lovely waterfront room. It had tasteful decor, comfy beds, thick towels, and a spacious balcony overlooking the marina and waterfront. Restaurants in Beaufort and Coffee and Cocktails are both an easy walk away. We enjoyed a delicious Siren there.

Our favorite part was sitting on the private balcony with morning coffee and watching the boats pass. The room was cozy and clean, and the staff made us feel very welcome. The Inlet Inn is quiet and charming, right on the water in the middle of the historic district. Shops and restaurants around town are all walkable. We loved our stay and will be back.

My second-floor king waterfront room was bright, airy, spacious, and beautifully decorated. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and I liked the updated rooms, especially the old bathroom mirrors with their speckled patina. Best of all was the regular wooden door and key, with no heavy door slamming shut. There’s a fridge, coffee maker, hairdryer, and flat screen, plus a large balcony with rocker chairs and a lovely view of the docks and Carrot Island. From this quieter end of downtown, you can also see the banker ponies and dolphins, and walk to shops and restaurants. Breakfast is included from 7:30 to 9:30 am. Call, and they bring it to your room within minutes: muffins, quiche, bagels, yogurt, coffee, tea, and juice. The staff are Beaufort locals and know the area well. They’re friendly and personable, too. This is a family-owned inn with a real bed-and-breakfast feel. There’s ample parking in the enclosed courtyard, and the lanterns and garden lights look lovely at night. The third floor has a cozy nautical sitting room and a widow’s walk, a nice spot for a private Zoom meeting or time with friends. There are also quiet garden seating areas. No pool or noise, and no kids running around. It feels especially suited to empty nesters and retirees looking for a simpler, peaceful stay. I visited in early March and think the shoulder seasons, March and April or September and October, are probably ideal. A real gem in Downtown Beaufort, and my first choice for another visit.

You can see the water and, from the third floor, get some of the best views of the harbor. If you’re lucky, you might spot the wild horses living on the nearby island. We were greeted right away, given a downtown map and points of interest, and provided our room keys, parking pass for the onsite lot, and details about the complimentary breakfast. Lots of restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Put this place high on your list for a Beaufort, NC visit.
