The one bright spot was Shirley at the front desk. Everything else made this stay so disappointing that we couldn't face another night. I had stayed here a year ago and found it nice and clean, so I booked again without checking the current reviews. It seemed to be under new management, though the man who checked me in, supposedly friendly, smelled strongly of alcohol. The room looked clean at first but had a strange old smell. The beds seemed dated, and I wondered whether the blanket and bedspread were washed between guests. The shower spigot wouldn't pull out until my husband fiddled with it. Once I got into bed, the whole bed felt damp and chilled me. Maybe the blanket had been washed but not dried properly. Then I noticed a urine smell from the mattress. When I tried to raise it, the manager said he was busy and couldn't talk. In the morning the tub spigot broke off, so I washed my hair in the sink. The smoke alarm then started humming constantly because of a low battery. Breakfast was average, and the coffee was cold. They wanted to charge us for the second night because we hadn't given 24 hours' notice, but my husband talked them out of it. Whoever bought the hotel seems focused on what they can get and unconcerned with customers.

Breakfast was a good buffet with plenty of choices, and everything tasted fine. There are also lots of restaurants and gas stations nearby. In the room, the microwave and fridge were handy, and the newer TV only had an analog signal. The bathroom was clean and nice, though the shower curtain had a couple of questionable spots. The tub drained so slowly I was dry and half dressed before it finished. The place could use an update. The bed was okay, but the pillows were shrunken to about half size and felt like they'd been washed and dried a hundred times, so they weren't comfortable.

The buffet breakfast was very nice, with eggs, sausage, bacon, French toast, biscuits and gravy, fruit, yogurt, cereal, toast, and waffles. Our room was clean and had a nice view, and the staff were polite and friendly during our one-night stay. The pool and jacuzzi area looked nice but needed a deep clean. There were black, dirty-looking spots on the bottoms and leaves floating in the water. Several soda machines near our room were sold out, so we had to go to the gas station down the street for drinks. The ice machine was broken too. Also, be sure to drive very slowly into the lot, because the entrance needs work. Apart from those issues, we had a nice stay.

Everything else was great, including the breakfast at the next-door restaurant and the waitress, who was great. The room was clean and well kept, and the night clerk was welcoming and nice. I gave it three stars because the cigarette smoke smell lingered even though it was a non-smoking room. We adjusted, but it was very noticeable.

The breakfast buffet was yummy and included with our room. We got in late on Friday, and I was glad they still had one room left. The place brought back memories of the past, which we really loved. It was raining, so we couldn't swim, but the pool looked deep, unlike newer pools that are only 3 to 4 feet deep. We're planning another trip just to stay there, enjoy the hotel, and see the town too.
