I left Red Roof Inn less than ten minutes after checking in around 10:30 PM on January 3rd, for a stay booked through January 5th. The room felt unsafe and unsanitary, and I’m now heading to small claims court. The door lock didn’t work, the AC was out, and there were holes and extensive damage in the walls. A glass picture frame was broken, the bedding felt sticky, and there weren’t enough pillows. The toilet wouldn’t flush, and its broken handle spun all the way around. The room also looked nothing like the photos online. I called the front desk three times without an answer, then went down and explained I couldn’t stay. They offered another room, but when I drove over, several sketchy people were standing around, including right in front of the door. I didn’t feel safe getting out of my car. Back at the office, I told the desk I was checking out because I felt unsafe, then left. This was about three hours from home, in a city I don’t know, during a rainstorm at around 11 PM. I had to spend another $200 on a room elsewhere, hoping it would be safe and decent. The business still doesn’t answer the phone to resolve the issue. I won’t let this get swept under the rug like it did for others who fell victim to this. I’m the wrong person to play this game with.

For a two-night stay, they gave us just two towels. When we asked for more, we were told to ask the next day, and they still didn’t follow through. After the first night, our keycard wouldn’t let us back into the room. Reception had a sign saying “be back in 15 min,” but we waited 25 minutes and rang the bell over and over before the woman came out on the phone, looking like she’d just woken up. She was rude and acted like we were bothering her, with no apology. She’d given us the card in the first place, then put the sign up again and went back to her room, which was one of the hotel rooms. The sheets had stains and clearly hadn’t been cleaned. There were cracks in the bathroom walls and shower, too. Horrible service and a horrible stay. Don’t recommend it.

The front desk worker was understanding and nice, and said he’d refund me. I never saw that refund. Outside there was a man wandering around with pliers and another begging. The room was disgusting, with mold and grime on the walls, literal poop on the bathroom wall, and stained sheets that clearly hadn’t been cleaned. I left after five minutes without even wanting to touch the bed. Stay away.

The room was so nasty, and the AC didn’t work. It was colder outside than in the room. The rooms and pool weren’t clean, though they did have fancy new security cameras. I’m surprised the city considers this hotel safe. It shouldn’t even have one star.

I got stuck staying here because they said cancelling would cost me 75% of the rate. My family and I will never come back. Staff couldn’t understand English well enough to talk about hotel matters, and even when we asked, rooms only got cleaned at checkout, no matter how many nights we stayed. Both rooms lacked keys, so I had to stop at reception every time I needed to get in. We got only two dirty bath towels, and the sheets were dirty too. There was no TV remote. They said the old one had just broken and they were working on it, but nothing ever happened. I don’t know if the whole Red Roof Inn chain is like this, but this was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and I’ll never go back.
