Motel 6 Bend, OR

The stay was good overall, and the rooms were clean. The night clerk was awesome, though the day shift could have been more on top of the coffee. I’d have rated it higher if there were coffee pots in the rooms instead of having to go to the front desk for coffee.

I did get a hot shower and a little sleep, and the bed was somewhat comfortable, but it was a rough night. The heater barely worked and made so much noise that it kept me awake. There was banging and what sounded like furniture being moved in nearby rooms around 5 a.m. One neighbor yelled at a man, apparently accusing him of robbing a room, and asked what the noise was about. He said he thought they were done, but to call the police if it happened again. Another neighbor asked if I was making the noise. I told him it was coming from farther down. Then a man came out carrying several stainless steel coffee flasks and other things under his arms, heading toward the train tracks. A big semi with a reefer unit sat in the lot rumbling all night, very loudly. The shower was clean and hot, but all that noise made this a pretty unpleasant stay.

We stayed for three weeks with our two dogs while waiting for our house to close. For a Motel 6, it was pretty decent: the rooms were clean, in reasonable shape, and seemed to have been updated recently. The TV was better than at other nearby places I’ve stayed. The WiFi stopped working about a week in and never came back, which was frustrating. There was also noticeable noise and activity nearby, with a homeless shelter and train yard right by the property.

On road trips with my dogs, I often stay at Motel 6, and this was the nicest one I’ve been to. Check-in and checkout were handled politely and efficiently. The room wasn’t perfect, but it was clean, and the long, luxurious bathtub is rare at budget motels. I could park right outside my door, and I had a great night.
