The Oxford Hotel Bend

Roam was a highlight for us, with a great lunch and an even better breakfast. We had a charcuterie board, wagyu sliders, fried green bean fries, and salad at lunch, then my husband had horchata French toast that he couldn’t stop talking about. The holiday decor in the lobby was lovely, there was coffee and flavored iced water out, and valet was quick every time. We were also surprised by how quiet the suite was. We never heard neighbors or hallway sounds, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The space felt cozy and beautifully designed, with a walk-in shower, separate tub, private toilet room, sofa, dining table, and a small kitchen with filtered water, French press, dishwasher, microwave, and fridge. The staff made the stay feel personal from the start. We got updates about the room, and after I’d asked for early check-in in the booking notes, they messaged us at 1 pm while we were driving from Eugene to say it was ready. GM Tess welcomed us and said they’d upgraded us to a king suite so we wouldn’t need to wait. She also offered sparkling wine, and brought out a guitar right away when she heard my husband plays every day. He used it through the stay. There’s also a pillow menu, soap menu, and option to borrow a record player. The free laundry was especially handy on our two-week road trip. The large washer and dryer had free-and-clear detergent and softener sheets, and I was grateful to use them twice. There’s a steam and sauna room and a gym too, though we didn’t have time to try them. We saw other couples coming out looking relaxed. It’s right downtown, and I almost skipped Bend on our Oregon road trip. I’m really glad we came. We both loved the hotel and still talk about it. Bend is beautiful, and you can tell the employees care about hospitality. I wish we’d stayed here longer instead of in Eugene.

The hotel itself is a cool boutique place, but the staff are what would bring me back. Valets, housekeeping, the front desk, and management all made us feel welcome every time we came and went. No request seemed too small. Their hospitality took the holiday stay from a five-star resort feeling to what I’d call a self-proclaimed seven-star Burj-Al Arab experience. I can’t say enough about them, and I’ll be back.

The rooms are nice and the Oxford Hotel is in a great location, but the service made this a very disappointing stay. I travel often, and this was the worst experience I’ve had in a long time. We came for an upscale New Year’s stay, but things went downhill from check-in through dinner and checkout. At the restaurant, the salad croutons were so hard they nearly broke a tooth. I’m certain I left personal items in the room. I contacted the hotel more than once, was told someone would follow up, and never got a call, a resolution, or compensation. For a hotel at this price, that was especially disappointing. The people I spoke with also seemed rude and dismissive. I had to call the front desk three times one morning just to get toilet paper brought up. I usually stay at the Hampton Inn in Bend and have always had a better, more professional and guest-focused experience there. This time I wanted to try something more upscale, and the Oxford fell short. Nice rooms can’t make up for customer service like this.

I’ve stayed at the Oxford for work three years running, and I keep looking forward to coming back. The front desk is friendly and welcoming, and this year the manager offered us bubbly while we waited to check in. The rooms are comfortable and nicely furnished. I especially like the soaking tubs, and this time I got a balcony too. The soap bar menu is another fun personal touch. The gym has good equipment, and I always get my annual Peloton workout in. There’s also a hot tub, sauna, and steam room, though the steam room was out of order on this visit. The attached restaurant and bar are excellent and make it easy to have a good meal without going elsewhere. The people and services are consistently great, so I highly recommend staying here in Bend.
