The room was dirty and bloody, and the people next door were smoking pot and throwing up right outside our window. The hotel guy said he’d issued my refund, but nothing came through after a week. When I called, he told me to call the cops and hung up. Absolutely disgusting place.

The beds were comfortable and the room was otherwise fine, but there were lots of flies and gnats, I killed two spiders, and water dripped constantly in the shower. The service was terrible. I rang the office bell and was told someone would come. After waiting ten minutes, he had to call to ask how to make my key. The next morning we needed towels, but no one answered the office bell or our calls.

I was on the road for work across Arkansas last week and rented room 113 for Thursday night. The first warning sign was that the office worker was sitting in her car instead of the motel office. The room smelled like I might be the first person to sign the no smoking agreement. I checked in around 5 or 6 pm, turned the AC down, and went back to work. When I returned around 10, exhausted from a day in the sun, I brought in my luggage and tried to settle. I already had a bad feeling, so I even moved the mattress to check for bedbugs. Then I noticed how much the room seemed to crawl with insects. There were what looked like blood splatters on the floor, boogers on the wall, and a German cockroach checking out my backpack. I moved my luggage back to the vehicle so I wouldn’t bring pests home. I tried to sleep in the bed, but within five minutes felt a tickle in my beard and a cockroach crawling across my face. I jumped up, furious and disgusted, and called the motel office. No answer, so I left a voicemail. I slept in the summer heat on the floor of my work van, in a space about 2 by 4 feet. I’m 5’8”. Because I was traveling for business, I needed a receipt and had been told it would be ready after 9 am, even though my day starts at 7. I was working in Berryville the rest of the day, so I thought I could swing back and get it. No. The only guy on duty was also covering the Eureka Springs location, and he’d left the office door unlocked. Walking in felt eerie, like being in a true crime podcast. I called again, and the woman who checked me in said the guy would be there at noon. Noon? We agreed she’d email the receipt, but she’d written my name wrong from my driver’s license, then blamed something else even though she had created my account. Getting the email took much longer than it should have. I’ll never recommend this motel, and I’ll tell people about the horrors of staying there if they ask.

We rented a room for two nights, but the manager decided my wife and I weren’t a good fit for the motel before we even got into it. He said he’d reverse the transaction, but two days later the money still hadn’t returned to my debit card as promised. If you’re an intravenous user, it might be a great place. If you love your family, stay away.
