Red Roof Inn PLUS & Suites Birmingham - Bessemer

We always have a great stay here when we stop on the way to Kentucky to visit family. The rooms are newer and very nice, and there’s a pool, which is nice. The gentleman at the front desk is helpful and courteous, with the best customer service skills.

The hotel is conveniently right off the highway, and it’s nice for a Red Roof Inn. I gave it three stars for those points and wouldn’t want to discourage someone booking for convenience. We were crossing the country with pets and chose it because the website listed a king suite with a separate bedroom and living area for $113. At check-in, they put us in the smallest room in the hotel at that price, saying suites cost more and none were available. Their offered alternative was the same-size room with two queens instead of a king, which didn’t solve anything. I showed my confirmation email for the suite, but the front desk worker pushed my phone away and refused to look. We had to book a second room to make the trip work, since we had so much stuff with us. They gave us only 10% off, and put the rooms at opposite ends of the hotel. We nearly doubled our cost, then found cockroaches, dirty towels, and no soap in any dispenser. I know it’s a budget hotel and you sometimes get what you pay for, but it was disappointing that after all that trouble, their idea of accommodating us was to make us pay for another room.

We had no complaints and will stay here again. The room was great, with a comfortable bed, nice TV, microwave, refrigerator, and good water pressure. We went out for about five hours on Friday and came back to fresh sheets and towels. We’d booked across the street at the Baymont four months ahead, but when we arrived, it was closed for renovations with no notice by email, text, or anything else. We went to the Red Roof Inn instead, told the front desk what we needed, and were in a king suite 15 minutes later. Thank you.

We arrived around 2 a.m. and were told we’d have a two-night stay for $142. We were already unsure about staying, but the nearby hotels were booked for both that night and the next, so after some frustration we settled. The hallway had a sticky substance that hadn’t been mopped up. Our room was extremely dark, even with the lamps on. One bed collapsed under almost no pressure, and the second had hair in the sheets and visible stains on both. The bathroom was the only place that felt clean enough to use, until we saw the filthy, stained towels. Since it was so late and we needed somewhere to rest, we stayed. We went out the next morning and came back to ask for a refund for the second night while we looked for another hotel. They said we were only booked for the previous night, even though we’d arrived at 2 a.m. and checkout was 11 a.m. We’d paid way too much for that room. The woman who booked us the night before was no longer working, and the rude man at the counter said there was nothing he could do. I’d never stay again under any circumstances. I’d rather sleep in the car than return to this filthy, run-down, low-quality hotel. I don’t recommend it and will leave reviews everywhere to warn people away.
