The location is hard to beat. Restaurants, grocery stores, bars, Home Depot and other shops are only a few blocks away, and Overton Square, Overton Park and the Memphis Zoo are an easy walk. I love wandering past the historic homes, especially around Central Gardens and the park in the fall. There are free concerts at the Shell in spring and summer, too. I’ve been at Belvedere Suites for six months, and it’s become one of my favorite places. The old hardwood floors, French doors, gas stoves and shaded balcony with a swing all add to its charm. The purple and green exterior and black ironwork give it a French Quarter feel. Around the courtyard are mature trees and lovely bushes; there’s even a bird sanctuary, nearby church bells, Christmas music from Thanksgiving through January, and the University of Memphis marching band on fall Saturdays. Heather manages the building so well. She’s professional, diligent, quick to sort out problems and keeps the apartments supplied and maintained. Belvedere Suites feels like a special historic find in Memphis.

My health got worse while I was staying here, and I wish someone had warned me. I left later than I should have, as did others who were there. I believe the place takes advantage of people who urgently need somewhere to live. I experienced what I believe were carbon monoxide and natural gas leaks, toxins from a faulty water heater, and toxins in the air. I don’t think people should be breathing that in. The management was irresponsible and cut corners, in my view. Whatever the place looks like, I don’t think it should be open. Please be careful and look elsewhere.

The French Quarter feel is a big part of what I like here. It’s close to everything, with the park, Beale Street, the gardens and the square all just minutes away. Weekends can be a little noisy, so keep that in mind, but I think it’s a great place.

Those afternoons in the back middle, around the picnic table, are some of my favorite memories. We’d blow bubbles, have picnics and watch the girls play. The other guests changed from visit to visit, but sometimes joined us. One guest even brought his dog back out after taking him in so the girls could see him. During an incredibly hard time, Belvedere gave us a little normalcy away from the hospital. From 2011 to 2012, my daughter Bree was going back and forth from our home in SC to St. Jude children’s research hosp. She had an aggressive stage 4 brain tumor. She was nearly 2, and Zay was 4 when we first met the kind woman managing Belvedere Suites while the owner lived out of town. Two men handled everything from maintenance to looking after the guests. It felt like a family and such an amazing support system. They prayed for us, celebrated Bree’s birthday with a surprise, and got presents for her sister, too. Some of my best memories with both my girls are from staying there. The place was beautiful, especially for midtown Memphis, LOL, and I miss it so much. We loved it. Six days after we left on our last visit, Bree took a turn and passed peacefully at home in my arms. I always hoped to return for the memories and some closure, and to take my oldest, now 17, to Graceland while she could still see it, since she was so young the first time. Then my dad died, followed by my soulmate, who loved my girls as his own. I got sick and went on disability, so we never made it back. I still dream about it often. I heard Barbara passed away, and I don’t know whether the staff is still the same. Back then, it was wonderful. I’ll always be grateful to Belvedere Suites and the owner, although we never met in person and only spoke by phone. I hope it brings many more people the comfort and joy it gave me. I give them 100 stars, lol. Love you, Belvedere, and all the staff and owner who’ve kept it going. God bless you all.

There’s plenty of room to sleep on the main floor, and the main bedroom bed was really comfortable. It was too warm for us to use the upstairs bedroom, but the apartment has so much charm. Thanks for a cozy stay!
