We paid nearly $10,000 for two nights in a premium ocean-view room because the views featured on the Post Ranch Inn website were the main reason we chose it. Dense fog blocked the ocean throughout our entire stay. We never saw the view we'd paid so much to enjoy. Before booking an ocean-view room in May, June, July, or August, I'd strongly suggest researching Big Sur's seasonal coastal fog. After this experience, I wouldn't book one in those months again. The website shows clear views but didn't prepare us for the possibility of the view being completely obscured for the whole visit. People paying thousands specifically for an ocean-facing room deserve enough information about that seasonal risk to decide for themselves. We asked staff several times whether the fog would lift and were repeatedly told it would probably clear in a few hours. It never did. Later, one employee told us they weren't supposed to say that the weather was expected to stay the same for several days, and that this sort of fog is common this time of year. The employee said it often lasts through much of summer. I can't verify that independently, but if true, the lack of transparency is troubling. Guests spending this much should get honest information about their chances of seeing the ocean. There were room maintenance problems too. The bar sink was clogged and the shower valve/faucet was loose and kept falling while in use. We reported both, but neither was fixed during our stay. Staff apologized, but nobody came to address them. For a place charging close to $5,000 a night, I expected better communication, upkeep, transparency, and value. Of course the hotel can't control weather. It can explain the possibility of seasonal fog honestly. If we'd known we might spend the whole stay looking at fog instead of the Pacific, we'd have picked different dates, a different room type, or another destination. The property is beautiful, but the cost wasn't justified for us. If an ocean view matters to you, think carefully before booking for late spring or summer.

Our treehouse, Grimes, sat right beside the spa renovation, directly in the path of the dust. We knew the spa would be closed, but hadn't expected that much noise and disruption. It kept us from enjoying the room for much of the day. Management covered our meal costs, which we appreciated, but with nightly rates in the thousands, it's hard to understand why they were renting rooms so close to active construction. We were there for two nights to celebrate my husband's birthday. The views were lovely, the rooms beautiful, and the complimentary minibar and snacks were a nice touch. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. The gym felt tiny, with only a handful of cardio machines and no built-in entertainment. Expanding or upgrading it would improve the stay. Sierra Mar's food was good, but not especially memorable.

I came with my husband for a quick weekend, booked through Amex fine hotels and resorts, and I'm writing as we're about to leave. It poured at the start, and I thought our chance at those famous views was gone. But the weather can change quickly here. A few hours later it may clear and the views can be stunning, so don't let rain put you off. We drove down to Mcway falls and Partington cove for a nice hike, took a yoga class at the resort, and hiked through the redwoods. Stargazing was canceled because of the weather. The treehouse room was unique, cozy, and warm, with a real wood-burning stove, amenities, minibar, and fridge. The bathroom was basic but perfectly fine. We read, snoozed, and enjoyed the fire. I tried both hot tubs, jade pool and meditation pool, with their stunning views. We liked dinner at Sierra del mar, brunch, and the other meals there too. Breakfast had beautiful views, while dinner was completely washed out by rain. The staff went above and beyond. Rain pelted the treehouse on our first night and I couldn't sleep, so I asked for earplugs and they found some. It was a good reminder to be present and enjoy the moments without rain. This isn't a value-for-money place, but it is luxurious and boutique, and I think it's well worth it. We'll definitely return. Thanks to Post Ranch Inn for a memorable weekend!

A peaceful weekday stay with ocean views all around. The rooms were clean, lovely, and private, and the staff made everything feel luxurious with attentive service. It was exactly the relaxing Big Sur getaway we wanted, a great place to unplug and unwind.

The views and location are stunning, but they couldn't make up for the rest of my stay at Post Ranch Inn. For such a high price, the quality felt shockingly low, and I left frustrated and deeply disappointed. I won't return or recommend it based on this visit. My room wasn't properly prepared and had cleanliness problems that shouldn't happen at a luxury resort. The basic amenities felt dated, with worn furniture and switches that didn't work properly. It all made the room seem neglected. Service was another letdown. Responses were slow, and it sometimes felt like no one cared about fixing problems. At premium rates, I expected prompt, warm, attentive help, but that wasn't what I got. The food looked beautiful but lacked flavor, and portions were surprisingly small for the cost. The gaps between courses felt too long as well. The setting is lovely, but the experience didn't live up to the reputation or price.
