Mountain View Motel

I booked because of the over-8 rating on Booking.com, but left disappointed. The renovation seems to have made the room feel bare and sterile. There was no carpet, and on cold mornings the floor made me shiver. No curtains either, just a window shade, which did a good job blocking light. In my king room there was a chair and ottoman, plus a small round table with no chairs, but no desk. The corner LED strips along the ceiling and floor looked dramatic but didn't give enough light to work by. A strange spiral LED lamp provided unshaded light in various colors, if you're in the mood, but wasn't useful for reading. The heating and cooling unit worked well, though it was very loud. The shower had no shelves, so shampoo, conditioner, and anything else had to go on the floor. That was difficult for me as an older person with arthritis. The plastic floor had raised bumps but was still slippery. They need no-skid strips soon or someone could fall.

From the outside, the remodeled property may not look like much, but I really liked it. The rooms were spacious and clean, nicer than many hotel rooms I've stayed in. The interior lighting was great, and there was a huge flatscreen with access to major streaming services. A few small annoyances: the coffee maker was hard to figure out, a nearby high school's Friday night football game might be loud if you're sensitive to sound, and downtown is about a 15-minute walk.

We stayed two nights and found a little hidden gem. The room was nicer than we expected, with great lighting, plenty of space, clean surroundings, comfortable beds, a mini-fridge, microwave, and a table with two chairs. The bathroom was on the small side, but nothing to complain about, and check-in was easy. The pool was out of service. I'd stay again when traveling through bishop, and wouldn't let the bad reviews put you off giving the place a try.

Our handicap room was clean, quiet, and comfortable, with plenty of space. The floor was so clean I couldn't feel any dirt or dust under my bare feet. The bed was very comfortable, and after arriving tired we slept like babies. The room had new lighting, a new bed, a really nice floor, a fridge, and a handicap shower seat. Some of the other rooms were being remodeled, but ours was perfect. We'll stay here again when we travel through Bishop California, and I'd recommend the motel to everyone.
