We came back to celebrate our wedding anniversary, hoping to relive the lovely stay we had here in 1997 for our fifth anniversary. The bed was comfortable and the location was good, but several parts of this visit disappointed us. I've never written a negative review before, but this felt worth sharing. Breakfast was the main problem. We went down at 8, when it was supposed to begin, but nobody was there. The lights were off and it was cold. The owner arrived looking rushed and unprepared, and the food wasn't memorable. Check-in was confusing and chaotic too. The house seemed empty at first; eventually the owner greeted us, then we waited for Sally to take us to our room. They offered cocktails at check-in. I ordered a couple afterward, but they took two hours to arrive. There's no room service, and we had to go up and down three flights of stairs for anything we needed.

Black Mountain is a fun little town to visit, and we really enjoyed our stay at the cozy inn. Our room was pretty, clean, and comfortable, and it was surprisingly quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was very good, cooked to order.

We parked when we arrived Friday and didn't need the car again until leaving Monday morning. The inn is in a perfect spot, and we could walk everywhere we needed to go. Black Mountain is easy to get around, with quaint, eclectic places to explore. Try Cousins Cuban coffee for a great cafe con leche, and there's also a German restaurant, which is a rare find. I booked the stay as a birthday gift for my husband, tied to the Black Mountain Blues Festival. Katy, Mike, and the rest of the staff were friendly and accommodating. The inn was cozy and clean, and breakfast came with the stay. Their gluten free pancakes were the best I've had.

Violet and Maggie took turns as hostess and chef, and they were both fantastic at each job. There was self serve coffee and hot tea all day, plus fresh baked cookies every afternoon, which made it easy to relax. The inn is a great home base if you want to explore. Downtown Black Mountain is a short walk away, and Montreat is a quick drive up the mountain. We really enjoyed staying here.

Mike was very responsive, and his team did a wonderful job during our amazing stay at Red Rocker Inn. I'd highly recommend staying overnight or having dinner there.
