Black River Falls Hotel

The pool deck was being painted when we went down to swim, even though the website said the pool would be open. I’d come back with my child and his father so I could teach my son to swim and finally soak my aching back in the hot tub, but the pool wasn’t open. The night before, I’d paid $300 for a whirlpool room, then asked to pay another $100 for a balcony suite because I have an injured back and wanted easier access outside. We moved our things to the second floor at the other end of the building, only to find the water wouldn’t get warmer than lukewarm. Maintenance confirmed the same temperatures were affecting nearby rooms. I called the desk wanting to leave and get back the $400 we’d paid. They said no reimbursement, but offered our original room or another whirlpool room down the hall without a balcony, saying they’d return the $100 balcony upgrade. I agreed to that room, then was told the upgrade cost wouldn’t be returned. They accused me of smoking in the first room, which I couldn’t believe, since I’d paid extra for the balcony. Then they said they’d hold the $100 as an incidentals deposit and return it at checkout if nobody smoked. With two bulging discs in my back, the whole thing was incredibly frustrating. The rest of my party left after deciding the water in the other room wasn’t hot enough, so I stayed alone. I called the booking company when the pool was closed; the representative asked the general manager to resolve it and said I was checking out immediately. She told them I wouldn’t return if they didn’t reimburse that night and the promised upgrade deposit. They then decided to charge me $40 for the upgrade, after we’d been told it was free because of the previous night’s inconvenience. I’m deeply disappointed and disgusted by the management, the condition and cleanliness, and the comfort promised here. I’ve stayed here for years, but this is my last time. I absolutely don’t recommend staying here when four other hotels are within a mile.

The rooms were clean and big, and the service was good. The lady at the front desk was great, and checkout went smoothly. It used to be a Best Western and has since changed to Quality Inn, but everything else has stayed the same. Great hotel and a good location for a stop while traveling through.

Lauryn at the front desk was amazing and got us checked in and settled quickly when we needed a room at the last minute. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable, and showers hot. Breakfast the next morning was hot and delicious. We’ll definitely stay here again!

The people running the place were wonderful and incredibly helpful, ready to help with anything. The facilities were nice: a large pool, hot tub, small but functional gym, and restaurant. At about $120 a night before fees, I hoped for more from the room. It was clean enough, though clearly dated, and I was glad it didn’t have carpet. The ceilings were very low, especially in the bathroom, with little room to stretch vertically if you’re taller than average. The bathroom light fixture was broken, though there was ample light from the room if you can pee with the door open and handle the heat lamp. Our toilet was clean but clogged when we arrived.
