The room was a decent size and comfortable, and the elevators were quick. The hotel is near the airport and Mall of America, with a shuttle to both. There’s a bar and restaurant onsite, and the drinks were decent without costing too much. No free coffee in the lobby, though, just Starbucks to buy, and there weren’t complimentary water bottles in the room.

The two things that earned extra stars were the roomy rooms with large TVs and Jim at the bar. He cared about the service and had a positive, “yes” attitude. Truly a delight. I’m fine staying at a Motel 6, but compared with other similar Marriotts, too many basic details disrupted our family’s stay. There was a huge empty lot, yet parking cost $12 a night, or $21 for the garage. No free coffee downstairs. The lobby had hot chocolate and cider packets, but they were often out or the hot water urn was empty. In our room, the coffee machine didn’t fit on its tray and came with one pod for four people. Rooms aren’t cleaned daily, and they use window-style heating and cooling units instead of central air. The water pressure was so bad that showering felt like standing under a sink. I had an accessible room for my father-in-law, but the showerhead only had a chair-height setting, with nothing higher for anyone else. The mattress also felt firmer than usual. I think there are better Marriott choices nearby.

We ended up here unexpectedly because of a blizzard. The staff were busy, but stayed upbeat and handled the extra guests well. The rooms were lovely, with comfortable beds. The bathroom fan is quite loud, though it’s a minor issue. Jake's Restaurant and Bar was the highlight: the dinner menu is small, but the food was fantastic and there’s enough variety for most people to find something they like.

We waited more than 50 minutes for the shuttle after arriving, despite calling five times and getting a different time estimate each time. When the driver finally showed up, he barely acknowledged us and didn’t offer to lift our bags like most drivers do. Earlier, my husband asked the bartender for a dirty martini and was told he was too busy to make it. If I didn’t know better, I’d think this was a motel 8, not a Marriott. I’d give it no stars if I could.
