Super 8 by Wyndham Bloomington University Area

The location and room were lovely, and the place was very quiet. The water pressure was probably the best I’ve had at a chain hotel. Things got strange near checkout: they messaged me around 8 am asking when I’d be leaving, then knocked before 11 to ask again. Also, the A/C shut off around 10, which I’d never experienced before.

I was really upset that my complaints were ignored. The room was so dirty that it was hard to stay there, and I feel I should at least have gotten a big discount for putting up with the filth. The managers were nice, but I expected Wyndham to mean the place would meet its standards. Everyone deserves a clean room. That shouldn’t be too much to ask, and it feels like nobody cares about making guests happy anymore. I used to really like Super 8, but not so much now.

The room had black mold coming up from the tub area, dirty floors, and holes and white stains on the couch and bed ruffles. The walls were thin enough that you could hear everything. Staff talked loudly at 5:30 am and kept it up all morning. They used the restroom right beside my room, and the hand dryer at 6:00 am went on for a long time and sounded like a vacuum. Breakfast was a joke: a dirty waffle maker, cheese crackers, stale pastries, and stale cereal. There was no soap, shampoo, or anything like that. I paid $240 per night, apparently because something was going on in town. This place isn’t worth $50 a night. It was a nightmare, and if I could give zero stars, I would. Don’t book here. The photo showing food that expired in 2019 was taken in 2025 and showed something offered at breakfast.

My night was fine until about an hour before I had to leave, when a staff member unlocked and opened my door while I was getting dressed. I had the door shut and locked. I’d just come back from breakfast, so I hadn’t slid the deadbolt over, but I thought the lock was enough. The staff member said something about housekeeping. I was only there one night because I had a conference meeting in Bloomington in the morning and didn’t want to drive all the way down and back home. I’m a female solo traveler, and I have never had anything like this happen before. It was completely unacceptable. There are ways to check whether someone is staying only one night before opening their door. There wasn’t even a door hanger telling staff not to enter. The one they provided just said to put it on the bed so they’d know to change the sheets. But checkout wasn’t until 11 am, so I don’t understand why anyone would assume it was okay to come in before I’d checked out. I’ll never stay here again. I can’t trust that staff won’t carelessly enter my room while I’m getting dressed. That’s a serious safety concern. If you’re a woman, don’t stay here.
