Tru by Hilton Minneapolis Mall of America

We come back every year for a friend's get-together, and Ashley is wonderful to work with. She always makes sure we can get adjoining rooms. This year a door locked on us, and Alexander worked tirelessly to open it. We're very grateful to them both. The location is great, and it's nice having free breakfast at the hotel. We'll be back next year!

After some bad hotel experiences, it was such a nice change to meet the kind, helpful man at the front counter. He even remembered us when we checked in later. Breakfast was very good, with more choices than other places. The rooms were clean, nice, and modern. Very amazing.

We didn't use the pool or fitness center, but both looked great, and the gym had more equipment than I usually see. The room was comfortable, the shower had good pressure, and the location worked really well for us, with an easy walk to the mall or a shuttle ride. Service was excellent, from the shuttle driver to the gentleman at the front desk, John maybe. Breakfast was a good, typical continental spread, just enough to start the day. Planes can be a bit loud on the East side, though they didn't bother us. Light sleepers might want earplugs. The walls are a bit thin, but it was mostly quiet during the day.

The customer service was nice, and the rooms were clean and organized, but we won't stay here again. The beds were by far the most uncomfortable I've had. We started in a king room, moved to a queen the first night, and it wasn't much better. I bought a $60 mattress topper at Walmart just to get through the stay. Night desk employee Mike said no one had ever complained about the beds and they didn't offer toppers. When we asked to move at 11:30PM, there was no compensation or even an apology. Mike needs better customer service. Paying $10 a night to park outside makes no sense to me, especially when Mall of America parking is free. Taking their transport there doesn't save money; if that's your reason for staying, you're better off at the hotel connected to the mall. Breakfast had absolutely no dairy free choices. We asked, and were told no, with no dairy free creamer, yogurt, milk alternatives, or anything else. Room service isn't automatic every day; you have to request it, and there's no guarantee. There's even a QR code in the room asking for a tip, but tip for what if nothing happens unless you ask? The ice machine on our floor was out the entire time. There were exposed plugs in the breakfast area with little kids everywhere, which seemed like a huge liability.
