It was about 1:30 a.m. on Labor Day weekend, and everywhere else we'd tried was full or wouldn't take dogs. We hadn't checked this place out first, and I wish we had. The two young men at the night window were helpful and got us checked in quickly, and they apologized when the first room's air conditioner was broken. Its front panel was pulled off and leaning against the wall, the temperature knob was broken, and the fan knob was missing. They spent a few minutes trying to make it work before I asked for another room, and one promptly brought a key to the room next door. That room was dirty too. There were stains on the curtains, table, carpet, and chairs, and my wife found hair and dead bugs in the bathroom. The air conditioner turned on and blew cold, but its thermostat kept shutting it off after about 15 minutes, then leaving it off for 10. Outside, the walkway rails badly needed paint, the grounds had litter, and the place looked filthy. The mattresses in both rooms were heavily stained, though I saw no signs of bed bugs. The old tube TV was on The Disney Channel, which made me think a child had stayed there before. We'd had such a hard time finding a room that we slept in our clothes for a few hours and left early. They said breakfast was available, but we skipped it. I have to admit I'm morbidly curious what that was like.
We came back after a previous bad experience hoping things had improved, but it was worse. The room was dirty, with burn holes in the bedding, a broken toilet seat, chairs too stained to sit on, ceiling water damage, and a table so wobbly it couldn't be used. Though it was a nonsmoking room, it smelled so strongly of smoke that we felt sick. We were told a fridge would cost another $20. After one night, we were told to pack up and leave. The owner lies about everything, in my experience, and we'd already had trouble with the staff and owner before. We also watched a young man ask to do laundry and get told the laundry room had been vandalized and nothing worked. This place doesn't meet the standards to stay open. It ought to be reported to the health department.
We had three rooms, and every one was awful. The ceiling was caving in, the heater was broken and needed fixing just to switch on, and there was mold and staining in the bathroom. The place was filthy, with garbage everywhere. A wedding or some other party was playing loud music until 3 a.m.; calling the police and front desk didn't stop it. The pool wasn't filled, and the room with the ice and vending machines was locked, so we couldn't get to them. The stairs had broken concrete, too. I can't believe this place is still running. Whoever owns it is scum.
The first room was filthy. There was a lot of dirt and men's shaving hair in the sink, plus dead bugs behind the phone and stuck to the wall, so we asked to switch rooms. In the second room there weren't any towels. A couple of hours later, just as we were going to bed, I saw a bug crawling across the bed. We looked it up online and identified it as a bed bug. It was still alive when I took it to the staff and asked for my money back, and they refunded me. When we returned to get our belongings, staff followed us to the room and rushed us out very rudely. They'd only changed the bedding. I posted pictures online, but they still had to be approved, so I'm not sure they'd appear. If you want to see how gross the place is, email me at jennypemberton81.jp@gmail.
The building needs some repairs, but it seems to be in a fairly safe location and the room, linens, and towels were clean. Breakfast was good, and the free Wi-Fi was a nice bonus. It's an affordable option, and we'd stay again.
