La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Blue Springs

On March 5th, 2026, around 4:00 PM, I had a deeply disappointing experience at this La Quinta because of the older man at the front desk. A white customer checked in before us, paid at the counter, and even offered a card for incidentals. The clerk said it wasn’t needed and handed him his key without hesitation. My coworker and I are both Black, and we’d already paid in full, including incidentals, through a third-party booking app. When we came up, the same clerk suddenly insisted we provide cards to keep on file. We explained that everything was paid and showed our confirmation and credentials, but he kept questioning us and acted like he’d never seen a third-party reservation, which made no sense for a hotel front desk. The difference in treatment was impossible to miss. The guest before us was told no card was necessary, then extra requirements and a completely different attitude appeared as soon as two Black guests arrived. The clerk was rude, dismissive, and visibly irritated while giving us our keys, as though we’d done something wrong by checking in. Guests shouldn’t have to wonder if they’re being singled out. This was extremely unprofessional and upsetting.
