Newbury Guest House

No hot water came through when we tried to shower that evening, which was a rough end to a long flight from Seattle. We were at Newbury Guest House on February 14 in Room 206, just for the night before an early trip to New York City. We’d chosen it because all we needed was a clean bed and a hot shower. I tried contacting the concierge for help but got sent to voicemail. Nobody called back or came to fix it, and our early departure meant there wasn’t time to wait for a repair. When we told the front desk the next morning, we got a short apology but no explanation, follow-up, or attempt to make things right. There was no compensation or meaningful acknowledgment either, which surprised us given the basic nature of the problem and the price and location. We know maintenance problems can happen. The frustrating part was the lack of response and resolution. We expected better service recovery at a property in such a prime Back Bay spot. We hope management gets in touch to address this properly.

We slept wonderfully, thanks in part to a really comfortable bed, and the staff were welcoming, kind, and ready to help. Back Bay is a great base for exploring Boston on foot, with restaurants, shops, and attractions nearby. I had an amazing stay at Newbury Guest House and think it’s an ideal place in the city. I’d gladly return and recommend it to visitors.

Newbury Street has plenty of fun shops and restaurants, and you can walk to so many places from this ideal location. The hotel itself is quaint and the rooms were comfortable. Front desk staff were excellent, helped us with our luggage, and gave us delicious restaurant suggestions. We had a fantastic stay.

My teenage daughter and I spent a long weekend here, and the front desk service was excellent. We also enjoyed the free hot chocolate each day. Our room looked out onto Newbury Street, which has lots of shopping, and Back Bay Station was an easy walk since we arrived by Amtrak. There’s construction across the street, so it can get noisy when the workers start. We were there over a weekend and holiday, so we mainly heard it in the morning when we left on Tuesday. Even with that, we’d recommend this quaint hotel.
