Rodeway Inn

I booked nine months ahead, then got an email two weeks before the stay saying the reservation had been canceled. After several attempts to reach the manager or owner, I was told I could book another room for twice my original price. Choice Hotels investigated after several calls and admitted the cancellation shouldn't have happened. Their offer was a room 80 miles away, the closest they could find. I don't recommend this location.

Sleep in your car. Do not stay here! I don't believe the five-star reviews are real. The people behind them also reviewed the other hotel owned by the same thief. No real customer would stay at two different hotels in the same city!

We booked eight months ahead through Expedia for the NHRA races at AmericInn. After driving five hours, we arrived to check in and were told our reservation had been canceled two days earlier because our card had expired in January. It was August. The woman said they'd called and left a message, but that number had been disconnected. I called it myself, and it didn't work. She called the owner, who also owns Rodeway, and asked what to tell us since he'd told her to cancel our rooms. He said to apologize and send us to Rodeway. We had no other rooms to choose from, so we went, and they charged us double our original price. This happens a lot, according to what we were told: they fill AmericInn, cancel people's reservations, and send them to this dirty, old, run-down hotel that never fills up. Our group felt taken advantage of. They blamed Expedia and said Expedia always does this.

I booked through Expedia, which charged my card. At the hotel, I handed over a different card and signed for another charge. The front desk guy said Expedia's charge was only to hold the room and would go through later, so I wasn't concerned. But when I checked my personal and business statements, I found the hotel had charged me twice. Expedia said they'd handle it. More than two weeks later, neither Expedia nor I could get the manager on the phone. The front desk told us they couldn't issue a refund until the manager was informed, but he was never there when we called. Must be nice to manage this place without having to show up. This was one room for one night, yet they won't fix their error. My company and the other companies I deal with in the Brainerd Lakes Area will take their business elsewhere. Our entertainment company books dozens of stays here, but this was enough to lose that business. I wouldn't recommend the hotel. I'll keep booking with Rutgers, Grand Casino, Days Inn, and Super 8 in the Brainerd & Mille Lacs Lake Area.
