We got about two hours of sleep, which pretty much wiped out our energy for the weekend getaway. The room was by far the loudest and least comfortable I’ve had in a B&B, especially for the price. It was winter, and the heat was turned way up. Even with the thermostat set to 60, it never cooled down. I’m fairly sure the neighbors had the same problem, judging by the racket. It sounded like they were building some kind of medieval torture device, though they may simply have been wrestling with an old window. We never met the hosts, which was disappointing because I had questions about the property. The only staff member we met was the woman serving breakfast. She was friendly and attentive, and the breakfast was good.

Marie and Shana made the stay special. They were delightful, helpful, went out of their way, and are delicious cooks. The common area felt cozy with a fire, and there was coffee, tea, and cookies throughout the day. The Inn on Putney Road is an old but well-kept building, with very comfortable beds and thoughtful room supplies: coffee, snacks, water, tea, and even feminine hygiene products.

We like hiking and swimming, so finding a trail behind the yard was a great surprise. It wound through the woods down to the water, where we went for a dip at sunset on a lovely summer evening. Breakfast was awesome. The Inn on Putney road felt like a dream from the moment we entered the old house. There are interesting things throughout the rooms to look at, and although the house is almost 100 years old, it’s clean from top to bottom and in perfect condition. Just what you want for a vacation getaway. You should try this house.

Paul gave us the kind of thoughtful, personal welcome that made our stay at the Inn on Putney Road special. He was considerate, professional, kind, and a great communicator, and he’s also a great cook. He took our dietary restrictions into account, which we really appreciated, and we had gourmet-style breakfast every day. We highly recommend the Inn.

The staff, food, location, and our cozy room in the Carriage house all made for a lovely few nights. I’d recommend settling into the main house living room with a bottle of wine, a book, and some snacks. I hope to return in summer to enjoy the outdoor spaces and stay in the garden view room.
