Maverick Suites at 89 Marion

I was worried about noise after reading some reviews, but the place was actually quiet and comfortable. We had a great stay at Maverick Suite 89, and I'd love to come back if I get the chance to visit Boston.

We left and went to the Iris, where the people were lovely and helpful. I'm still trying to get a refund from this place, and I'd warn people away. It was horrid. The AC didn't cool the room, and the elevator was out. No one told us about the elevator, even though we were on the third floor. My spouse has breathing issues and struggled for air at the top of the stairs. It wasn't because he was out of shape. Even the maintenance guy was huffing and puffing when he came up. If you've watched someone struggle to breathe, you know how frightening that is. The pillows badly needed replacing, and staff said they had no spares, so we ordered some from Target through Instacart. The AC blew air, but the temperature never dropped. I own minisplits and know they can cool a room in ten minutes, even when it's 100 degrees outside. We opened the windows, but street noise kept us from sleeping. Maintenance came by, and at first we both thought the room was cooling down, but it wasn't. When I asked for another visit, I was cheerfully told they'd checked it and it was working, even though the room was ten degrees warmer than the setting. It was 59 degrees outside, so the unit wasn't overwhelmed.

The studios work well for one person or a couple, and having a kitchenette in the room was a nice addition. There was also a full kitchen available for all guests. The building has just been renovated but still has plenty of brownstone character. Communication was good, and they answered all our questions promptly. We had a great stay and I'll book with Maverick again next time I want a city getaway.

My parents stayed there and had a disappointing visit. Their room, Number 11, was next to the elevator, and the noise carried through the day and night, making them uncomfortable and disturbing their sleep. They also said there was no room service this year. When we booked through AirBnB last year, they had daily service. Last year's room was on the second floor and wasn't noisy. This time, the sheets and towels stayed the same throughout their stay, which wasn't what they'd experienced before or expected. After this, they're hesitant to return, and we wouldn't recommend the property to friends or family. I hope the feedback can help improve future guests' stays.
