Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Brownsville North

We chose this hotel for four nights while visiting our son, but we'd probably stay somewhere else next time. We could hear a lot through the thin walls and ceiling, including people partying next door who kept a relative of ours awake most of the night. The location was handy, close to restaurants and the freeway, and a short distance from downtown Brownsville. Breakfast was disappointing. The hot food ran out early and wasn't always replenished, and there weren't many healthy choices. We ended up finding Morning Glory Cafe downtown and Garden Coffee off Ruben M Torres Blvd instead. The treadmills worked well, but the disinfecting wipes were gone and the filtered water tasted like the filter hadn't been changed. A homemade notice at the front desk said the hotel wasn't responsible for items stolen from rooms. That didn't leave us confident in the staff, so we skipped room refresh service.

The room wasn't clean, with crumbs between the sheets and hair everywhere. I was assigned a handicap room even though I'd requested a regular one. The TV, which was supposed to have Netflix, didn't work. When I asked to switch rooms, a rude maintenance man came in and jumped on me, insisting the TV worked fine. Lonnie (The Manager) wasn't helpful either. Breakfast was cold and tasted strange. The juice dispenser and milk both seemed to have a film in them. I've stayed at several Fairfield’s in Dallas, Colorado, San Antonio, and Houston, and as a Marriott member, I found this one the worst yet. I won't come back, and might try the Everhome suites next door.

Joey at the front desk gave us some really helpful restaurant suggestions. The hotel itself was clean and quiet, and breakfast was free, though pretty simple. We'd happily stay here again.

The rooms and lounge were good, but breakfast service fell short. They barely had any ketchup for the hash browns on the first day, and there still wasn't more on day two. They weren't keeping the dishes or plates replenished either.
