Super 8 Brownsville

I picked this place for its availability and location while I was in town for a funeral over Thanksgiving weekend. From outside, the hotel didn't impress me, but the attendant in the tiny lobby was very nice. The room was huge and clean, and the free breakfast was actually decent, with waffles and eggs. Nothing fancy, just good service and a clean room.

The room was very nice, but the service from manager Kay was rude and passive aggressive. I was waiting for my deposit, and there was nobody at the register, so I rang the bell, thinking that's what I was meant to do. I got curious about the bottom of the bell, and Kay sent her daughter to tell me I was being annoying. Kay had also been rude and inconsiderate when I first arrived. I understood she was in the restroom and never meant to bother her, but the attitude felt unnecessary. I paid $300 and expected better customer service. I understand people have bad days, but that's no way to speak to a customer, especially someone visiting for the first time. I won't be back because of Kay. In my personal opinion, she should be replaced by someone who understands that guests may be unfamiliar with the place. No disrespect, but this is not something I should have to tolerate for $300.

The staff were friendly, the place was VERY clean, and the pool was nice. I've stayed at similar inns nearby, and this one's been the best so far. 👍🏼

The one issue I noticed was the back staircase. On the way up to the second floor landing, the final step is much taller. It looks like the stairs may have been replaced at some point, and some yellow warning paint could help alert guests. Otherwise, everything was great. The room was very clean and had a refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast was great too, with plenty of choices, including waffles, scrambled eggs, and bacon.
