Ray was excellent, and the room was cozy, very clean, and had a walk-in shower. I was in Santa Barbara for a wedding on a tight budget, and hotels in the SB area were way beyond it, so I looked for a cheaper place out of town. Compared with the average $250 a night elsewhere, the rate here might be called cheap, but the experience was far from cheap. Buellton is a nice town with warm people, and Solvang is about 15 minutes away and worth a visit if you’re in the area. I’d definitely stay at the San Marcos Motel again, budget or not.

The motel is old, but the staff do a great job keeping it cozy and clean. Ray was a wonderful person and gave me the best service I could have asked for. People like him make me want to come back. Great value. Thanks, Ray!

The rooms were very clean and the bed was really comfortable. Ray, the owner, was attentive and very nice, and gave my wife and me great advice for visiting Solvang. We had a great stay and will definitely be back if we’re in the area. Thanks, Ray!

Our stay was okay, and the room felt a bit tight but was fine. The bathroom has no exhaust fan, so after a warm, steamy shower you’d expect to turn on the A/C. The outside door locks could also use updating for safety. Still, overall our stay was okay.

We only stayed one night, unfortunately, but this was the friendliest and cleanest motel we’ve been to in a long time. The welcome started with a smile at reception. We thought we’d booked through hotels.com, but it hadn’t worked out. They still gave us a room at a good price, which we appreciated. Save the fees and call to book directly. The place is clean, friendly and well maintained.
