I recommend staying in the main hotel, where you can appreciate the architecture and atmosphere. The ballroom and lobby are beautiful, parking is on site, and the cocktail bar feels like stepping back into the 50s, dark and atmospheric. It was open on weekends when I visited last year. Many historic buildings are within walking distance, and I'd highly recommend a stay. Hotel Finlen opened on January 1, 1924. James Finlen, son of Irish immigrant and mining pioneer Miles Finlen, commissioned the nine-story building, which was designed in the French Second Empire style by Shanley and Baker and inspired by New York City's Hotel Astor. Over the 20th century, it became a cultural and social center in Butte. Guests over the years included Charles Lindbergh, Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy, and Richard Nixon.

For a real Butte experience, I'd pick the main hotel over the motor lodge. The lobby is gorgeous, the place is clean, and the views are amazing. I loved staying here. Some rooms might have spirits, or something I can't explain, but they seemed welcoming. This is the coolest historic hotel I've stayed in. 10 out of 10.

The chandeliers and wedding setup worked perfectly with our daughter's Roaring Twenties theme. We enjoyed staying at the Finlen Historic Hotel for her wedding. It's over 100 years old, which made a fitting backdrop. The staff were helpful, and there was a reasonably priced laundry option.

The Cavalier Lounge is a treat, and the hotel itself has a gorgeous lobby, clean rooms, friendly staff, parking, a good location, and a great price. It's the only place I want to stay in Butte.

Stayed here while on tour. The service and rooms were good, but the location felt a bit dreary. The heavy drapes and all that historical grit and smoke give the place an intense vibe. I swear this place is haunted, like my ghost runs through the halls lol.
