Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Toledo, OH

I’m furious and won’t ever book this location again. I reserved a room through the Toledo marathon site on March 9, as I’ve done before, and got a confirmation email as recently as Wednesday guaranteeing it was set. I drove two hours on Saturday, then waited 15 minutes at the desk only to learn the manager had canceled my room after leaving at 2 pm. The front desk woman said someone was supposed to call or email, but nobody contacted me. It was 9:15 on the Saturday before the marathon, with every hotel booked for months. My only option was an econo lodge off the freeway with one room available, and the whole mess added another two hours to the trip. I’d planned to shower and go to bed. Rudy, a lovely man on the main corporate line, compensated me, but that doesn’t undo this completely unacceptable situation. I’ll tell everyone I can about what happened.

After being on the road all night as a truck driver, I really appreciated the warm welcome from Tiara at the front desk. Miss B is a gem, and breakfast was good. The two of them made the hotel feel genuinely welcoming. My room was clean, quiet, and comfortable, and I rested well. I had a great stay at the Country Inn & Suites in Maumee, OH, and would happily stay again and recommend it.

I booked ahead because the listing said there was a pool and hot tub. At check-in I learned there was no hot tub, and the pool had been closed for six months. Since it was very late, we took a room anyway, but the first one had an alarm going off in the bathroom as soon as we walked in, so they moved us. The second room was okay, though less convenient on the third floor. The front desk staff were friendly enough, but it was a big, unnecessary hassle. I called corporate the next morning, canceled, and switched to a nearby sister property with a working pool. I prefer Country Inn & Suites.

The staff were wonderful and the coffee was good. It was an okay stay, though the hotel needs updating and could have been cleaner. Breakfast was basic.
