The beautiful room, property, and top-notch amenities made a great first impression. On arrival we got a short tour and some history, and the location was convenient for walking around downtown. But the price was high, and I can't give it five stars, especially after feeling pressured to do so. They asked about dietary restrictions at check-in but didn't account for them when serving breakfast. At breakfast I nearly sat on a cockroach on my chair, and the server more or less handed me a napkin to squish it. We also called and emailed several times before the visit hoping to arrange vineyards and a massage. Our voicemails and emails went unanswered, so we had to book those elsewhere. There's no staff member on site full-time, and it seemed like they tried to avoid being there. That was frustrating when signs said to ask staff to turn on the fireplace, or when we needed something simple like a towel. These issues might not have bothered me so much if it hadn't cost so much, but I can't say we got our money's worth.

We left the Francis House feeling relaxed and pampered, already hoping to return. The pool area was peaceful, and we loved the homemade breakfast each morning. Downtown Calistoga is only a short walk away, while the house still feels quiet and private. It's one of the most special places we've stayed, restored beautifully inside and out. The historic building blends modern luxury with its old character, and every area feels carefully designed. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. From the moment we arrived, the staff gave us such warm, thoughtful attention that it felt more like being welcomed into an elegant home than checking into a hotel. You can tell they take pride in creating a distinctive stay. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful trip at The Francis House and would happily stay again. The house and grounds are beautiful, and it's an easy walk to dinner or drinks in downtown Calistoga. The staff were welcoming, accommodating, and seemed to genuinely love working there. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The Francis House felt magical from the moment we drove through the gates. Richard and Dina were such gracious, kind hosts that by the end we felt we'd made new friends. They've restored and renovated the property so beautifully that it has the feel of a luxurious French chateau, with thoughtful design and detail throughout every room. They took care of every last detail of our stay. Breakfast was delicious and gourmet each day, served in a peaceful outdoor dining area, and they checked on dietary restrictions before we arrived. The grounds are lovely too. After a fun day of wine tasting and shopping, we enjoyed the beautiful pool and cozy fire pit. It's also a short walk to downtown Calistoga. We were sad to leave and can't recommend this beautiful B&B enough.
