Roisin made our stay feel personal from the start. She got in touch before we arrived with the details we needed, welcomed us when we got there, and suggested some great dinner options. Breakfast the next morning was incredibly delicious, and we ended up talking with her for a while. We really enjoyed meeting her. We spent one lovely night at Nine River Road. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the shared spaces felt so thoughtfully put together, from the gorgeous fireplace and cozy sitting areas to the bright, roomy kitchen and back porch. It’s a gem, and Callicoon has become our new favorite charming little town.

The house is cozy and comfortable, with plenty of room, big porches, and an outdoor firepit where you can relax. Shops and restaurants are nearby, either a nice summer walk or a quick ride into the center of town, where there’s parking right in the middle. We came up from Pennsylvania for a quick trip and it still felt like a real getaway. Our house manager was so friendly and took great care of us, even treating us to a room upgrade. The hospitality was lovely, and breakfast, made with fresh local farm groceries, was the best. We’ll definitely be back with friends!

There’s plenty to do just inside Nine River Road. Guests can sit around with board games, put on old-school rock and roll or classical music on the record player, read, talk, or listen to the crickets outside the beautiful window walls. The country kitchen has a big wooden table for meals and refreshments, and breakfast includes coffee, tea, bagels, fresh lemon water, English muffins, apple turnovers, oatmeal, jams and spreads, and fresh fruit. It was a little smaller than I expected, but still delicious. I stayed in a room with two cozy chairs, a comfortable queen bed with white linens, and complimentary water on a round tray near the foot of the bed. There was also a separate wash room and a stand-up shower. Each guest room has its own rustic charm. Outside, there’s a firepit, Adirondack chairs, a hammock, dining tables, and a screened porch. During the day we saw birds, hawks and other birds of prey, plus deer and chipmunks around the property. Complimentary binoculars are available to get a closer look. The Delaware River is only a short walk away. After dark, the string lights and free s’mores by the fire made for a warm, inviting place to watch the stars shining so clearly in the upstate New York sky. The town is a two-minute walk away, with several options for coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. I especially liked Callicoon Cafe, The Kitchen Table Cafe, The Creek House Grill, and The Western Hotel. Black Walnut looked like a great spot too, but unfortunately it wasn’t open during my stay. Some businesses in the area only open on weekends. Nine River Road was a wonderful stay, and I highly recommend it.

Finding this hidden gem feels like a gift after coming to this area for decades. The walk into town is a pleasure, with its quaint shops, restaurants, and bars to enjoy. Nine River Road made for a perfect weekend. The living spaces are comfortable, with a cozy fireplace, games, and lots of places to relax. Outside, there’s a lovely firepit for s’mores right along the Delaware River. Roisin gave us the warmest welcome, including warm donuts. She’s helpful without being intrusive, and so lovely that it felt like we’d made a new friend. The rooms are comfortable too. Can’t wait to come back!

Breakfast gave us a chance to chat with the other wedding guests who were staying at this beautiful house, which was a lot of fun. We were in Callicoon for a wedding, and several of us spent the weekend here on the happy couple’s recommendation. Our room was comfy, and there were lots of cute extras, like s’mores kits, fire-building kits, and board games. The breakfast they prepared was good, though it could have had more vegan-friendly options. I made it work anyway. What a fabulous place to stay in Callicoon. I’d definitely recommend it!
