The room was clean, if a bit small, and the bathroom was reasonably equipped with a blow dryer and toiletries, including shampoo and conditioner. There was a mini-fridge and microwave, but no coffee maker or cups. I found the bed uncomfortable, with hard pillows and sheets that weren’t soft. I stayed one night and arrived close to 9 p.m. When I asked to check out later than 11 a.m., I was told it would cost $20 an hour, even though check-in is at 3 p.m. and I’d only checked in around 9 the night before. It also appeared that DSS had some clients staying here. I guess you get what you pay for.

The wedding room block was already closed, so I needed somewhere else to stay. This place looked just like the pictures. Mit, the owner’s nephew, made check-in effortless. The owners bought the motel and did a major renovation last spring, and it had been open for a few months when I visited. The room was thoughtfully laid out, very comfortable, and impeccably clean, with handrails and good use of space. When I got back late, the office attendant kindly watched me walk to my room. I highly recommend it if you want a comfortable, very reasonably priced stay on the East End.

I left with a week still on my stay because I couldn’t put up with this place. I made up an excuse to check out. They said my booking was nonrefundable, so I’m out around $1,000, but I didn’t argue. I just wanted to get away. I’d take this review down if they refunded the nights I wasn’t there. There was a strange stain on the sheets and hair in the bathroom that wasn’t mine. The blinds wouldn’t close properly, and the heater blew them open, leaving the room visible from outside. The bathroom window had no lock or screen, so someone could climb in. The guests seemed homeless or placed by DSS, and they were rude and loud. The workers stayed behind protective glass, and I understand why. It didn’t feel safe at all. Don’t come here unless you want to rent a room at a homeless shelter.

Housekeeping cleaned the rooms every day, which you don’t even get at some four- and five-star hotels now. The lobby was nicely updated, and there was a complimentary grab-and-go breakfast. The place was clean and immaculately updated, and the price was great for being so close to shops, places to eat, and beach access near the Hamptons. I was really pleased. It’s a true gem, especially for the cost.

I’d give the motel four stars, though a few small changes could bring it up to five. We couldn’t open the big window curtains for natural light because people in the parking lot could look straight in, and the curtains wouldn’t stay shut. We had to clamp them closed. The smaller window on the other side looked directly into the neighboring house. I’d suggest putting the same frosted applique there as on the bathroom window.
