The worst part was the staff. The night desk person barely spoke at check-in, then seemed annoyed when they did respond. At checkout, I dropped something just outside the door, which closed behind me. My key no longer worked, so I couldn’t get back in. A staff member had seen what happened, but when I knocked, she yelled at me to go around to the front. I only wanted to pick up the thing I’d dropped. She knew that, yet wouldn’t open the door or hand it to me while I was carrying things and looking after my kids. Some basic common sense and courtesy would have gone a long way after we’d paid over $350 for a dirty, run-down room. We’ll be back in the area in a few weeks and will choose somewhere else. The location is handy, with easy access to the interstate, a grocery store, and several restaurants. The room was decent, though for the price it needed repairs, upgrades, and a better cleaning. The cramped bathroom had broken tiles, a broken bathtub drain, and what looked like years of stains. It felt dirty. The bed and rest of the room were fine, but our door was standing wide open when we arrived, which made us uneasy about whether it locked securely.

We paid almost $200 each for two rooms, but the welcome at check-in wasn’t friendly. Most of my room was clean, though there was mold on the windows and fingerprints all over the shower door. Both key cards failed. When I went to have them redone, I found that one sleeve had been marked with the wrong room number. My room door wasn’t secure; someone could push it open from outside. Luckily, I didn’t need to leave and could lock it from the inside. I also mentioned that I was a rewards member, and the front desk person sternly told me it wouldn’t affect the rate.

The area seemed safe and the surroundings were clean. My stay was very nice overall, and I think this is one of the better hotels nearby. I’ll come back. Just two things bothered me: the bathroom door wouldn’t close all the way, and when I called the front desk at 7:30 a.m. from the fifth floor, nobody answered. That was a little irritating.

We checked in late at night for a reservation we’d made a few weeks earlier. Malcolm made everything easy and was both friendly and professional. He went out of his way to make sure we were looked after. I’ve told several people about how well he treated us and recommended they stay here.
