The rooms felt mediocre for what they cost, though we stayed overnight during an event, which may have affected the price. Ours had a fridge, coffee maker, safe, and typical-size bottled water for $3 each. There’s also a small shop with drinks, snacks, alcohol, laundry supplies, picnic bags, and other items, plus coffee and a microwave. The property has a bar and restaurant, a fitness center, and several ballrooms. The pool is outdoors and closes for the season in October. The hot tub is outside too, about 10 yards from the closest door back inside, and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. I’d strongly suggest asking for a robe if you plan to use it.

The room was wonderful, with a lovely lake view, and we got upgraded to a king suite as Hilton Diamond members. The whole facility is beautiful. The restaurant and service, though, were horrible. At check-in, the employee argued with me about benefits and knew less than I did about the Hilton app. I had to fight to get both my points and food credits. Restaurant service was just as bad. One person seemed to be waiting tables and possibly cooking and bartending, too. The food was below average, and our beet salad came without beets until we asked. Two women at the next table left after waiting 45 minutes with no food, even though there were only eight customers in the whole restaurant. We came back the following evening only because we had credits. Our waiter, who was also tending bar, had to leave to deliver room service. We were the only customers there at 6 p.m. That says plenty.

I’ve stayed here three times, and the place has gotten worse over the years. My two-star rating is about the nickel-and-diming by the management company, Midas Hospitality. They started charging $10 a day for parking in April 2025, even though I’d never paid for parking here before. No other hotel in the area charges it. Hilton blamed the management company when I raised it with them, and the management company ignored me. I did get the parking charge credited back, but it’s ridiculous. This isn’t the Ritz Carlton. I was also charged a $109.50 incidental hold on my card for each night, which hadn’t happened on previous stays. They said it was in case I used room service or had a bottled water in the room, neither of which I do. That hold was reversed after checkout, but why put such a large hold on a card if you’re going to reverse it? I understand Hilton and the management company need to make money during off-peak periods, but these questionable charges and parking fees make customers want to book somewhere else.

We were in town for a wedding next door at the Country Club, so our stay was short. We basically just slept and showered there and didn’t eat any meals. The room was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. It’s a beautiful hotel in a lovely location. My only gripe is the $10 parking charge on top of a room that cost over $464 for one night. I know it’s not a lot in itself, but charging for parking after that room price seems cheap for a Hilton.

The restaurant service was inattentive, and it took 45 minutes to get a hamburger at an off-peak time. There was no complimentary decaf at the small pantry coffee stand. The brunch menu didn’t say so, but the breakfast sausage patties were chicken, and they tasted awful. We also found pet hair on our clothing after putting it on the couch. When I raised some of the room’s missing basics with the front desk, I got a bewildered look and was told engineering would look into it. I never heard back. The Digital Key only partly works. For a Hilton lifetime Diamond member, this was a bad stay at Hotel Canandaigua, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, from October 17-19, 2025. It sits nicely on Canandaigua Lake, but missed many basic expectations I have of a hotel, especially a Tapestry Collection property. Our room had no bedside lamps, end tables by the couch, luggage rack, ironing board, desk, bedroom dresser, extra blanket, or microwave. The living area had only one overhead light, and there wasn’t a single shelf in the bathroom. The decor that was there clashed in style, placement, and size. It felt haphazard, unfinished, and possibly like an incomplete renovation. The layout didn’t make sense, with a lot of empty space. Motel 6 and Super 8 seem like they might be more traveler friendly. A note to the owners: nice lake views and public spaces don’t excuse missing room basics. You have a lot of work to do.
