Rose Tavern was a real bright spot. My friend and I had brunch there twice, trying the Lobster Benedict, avocado toast with pork belly, breakfast bowl, and raspberry French toast. We both liked everything we ordered. We didn’t make it to Sand Bar. We also spent the day hiking, checking out nearby wineries about 30 minutes away, and driving roughly an hour to Watkins Glen. The Cottage King Suite was clean and had a modern, simple look, but it didn’t feel especially luxurious or memorable. For the price, I expected more. We were only there for one night over Memorial Day weekend, and after getting back late one evening, we found out room service ended at 10pm, so we couldn’t get food. The next day we went to the pool and ordered non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiris at $15 each, which seemed pretty ridiculous for a mocktail. At the Library Bar, I asked for a short Americano since I like less water and didn’t want a big 12 oz coffee. The barista seemed annoyed and said, “the water is pre-pulled,” which didn’t really make sense to me. The place was just okay for me. I’m glad I tried it for a night given all the high ratings, but I don’t really get the hype.

The private wine tour Fletcher arranged at the hotel made for a lovely day, and our driver John was personable and knew the area well. We also had wonderful massages at the spa, thanks to Amy, and soaking in the outdoor hot tub at the end of February was so relaxing. Our room was comfortable and clean, and we were upgraded to a suite. Service was impeccable throughout the property, and the food and service at Rose Tavern were excellent. Steve and Micaela went above and beyond there. It was a wonderful trip, made even better by staying at the Lake House. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at.

We paid $18 for a drink at the library bar, but the room was charged $32. I don’t know whether the bartender added a large tip or what happened, but the amount didn’t seem right. We also ordered delivered breakfast, which was expensive with all the fees, and it was disappointing. At the very least, I expected it to arrive hot. We left half of it uneaten. My sister called ahead of check-in to ask if the hotel could arrange a birthday surprise for me. Nothing happened until we checked out, days after my birthday, and only after she followed up. I know mistakes happen, but at a highly rated hotel, that was a letdown. Staff also asked me several times why I was staying, even though I’d already told them at least three times that it was my birthday. It didn’t feel like the experience people praise. This place is far too expensive for what it offers. I’ve had better stays elsewhere.

The staff made my three-night birthday trip with friends the best hotel stay I’ve had. Alantra at the front desk was welcoming from the moment we arrived, and I looked forward to seeing her each day. She even took photos for us, and I loved that complimentary photos were offered. Elizabeth took some the next day and was just as kind. John at the front door helped with our bags, made sure we were comfortable, and was always up for a friendly chat. We had a great time using the pool, hot tub, fitness center, and the complimentary morning yoga classes. The s’mores were fun too. Sandbar had a beautiful lake view, and the library was a cozy place for pictures, though it wasn’t open much while we were there. The robes and slippers were the comfiest I’ve ever tried, a little detail that made a big difference. Rose Tavern went out of its way for my birthday dinner. They kept my cake in the fridge all day, then cut and served it after dinner. Pat took great care of us as our waiter, and Tiffany, the manager, checked in throughout the evening to make my birthday feel special. Everyone we met left a lasting impression. I’ll absolutely be back!

We had a superb check-in, and since my wife is pregnant, they replaced the alcoholic welcome drink with sparkling juice. The room was clean and cozy, and the property was in good shape. It was a quiet week, so we got plenty of attention and hardly had to wait for anything. The pool was warm and the meal was great. We especially liked walking around the grounds to see the gardens and patio. We came for one night for our anniversary and will be back.
