If you want a Holiday Inn, this probably isn’t the place. But for a small mom and pop motel, it’s a good fit. Check-in is sort of self-service, which I understand since it wouldn’t be feasible to pay someone to sit there all the time. I stayed in room 3 a few years ago and loved it. The cute little town’s restaurant and grocery store are within walking distance, and I even cooked an egg on the stove in my room.

This is a lovely, chic boutique motel that’s very affordable. If you’re frugal, you’ll do well here. The rooms are comfortable, and the owner is a decent, compassionate guy who believes people should have a safe, affordable place to stay. He’s also a military veteran. He has furnished apartments for rent in Sioux Falls, too. The employee who stays at the motel, Jamie, is attentive and always there to help if you need anything. My one suggestion is to bring back cable TV.

I still haven’t gotten a refund. The owner said he needed to pay the mortgage and had other bills because people kept canceling. If guests keep canceling, maybe that says something. He should come back from Arizona and get this place into suitable shape for renting. I wouldn’t rent this room to anyone. I arrived Monday morning, with nobody on site. The office was being rented by a woman who seemed strange and yelled at me. I contacted the owner for instructions and he gave me a code. The room was prepaid, but when I went in, I was shocked that it was being rented at all. I called to request a refund, and he refused. He asked what was wrong, and I told him. He said there was no Hampton Inn in town, but he was wrong. He also said there was no refund because he had a mortgage to pay. I gave him what I meant to call a 48 hour policy notice, asking him to keep Monday and Tuesday’s fee and refund Wednesday and Thursday. He refused again. Later, he texted asking me to go back and photograph my concerns. I did, though I should have left it alone. I sent photos and a video with notes about each issue. He said he’d put the board under the refrigerator himself. I could have done a better job remodeling that area. He made excuse after excuse and said the corn couldn’t have been in the room, but my photo showed it. The floor hadn’t been swept, and I don’t understand how anyone could rent this room at that price. The current owner is using photos from the previous owner, and the place doesn’t match what he advertised. Please read reviews before booking. My concerns were an unswept floor, missing ceiling tiles in the bathroom, rust around the ceiling, water-stained tiles, and clearly no bathroom vent. The board under the refrigerator was rotted, and there was corn on the floor, which made me think there might be a mouse problem. The bed’s comforter didn’t match, but someone changed it after I complained and before I took a photo. He may have installed new flooring, but it was fitted too tightly. There are air bubbles underneath, and the floor won’t lie flat without moving.

At $70, it’s a quiet, affordable place to spend the night, and it seemed clean enough. The shower and bathroom looked clean. The floors needed vacuuming, there was a slight unpleasant smell and a few flies, but at least fly swatters were provided. The sheets and comforter felt damp, as if they hadn’t dried properly, though I guess it’s a good sign they were washed. The room has a private washer and dryer, a mini kitchen with a stove, and a TV. It’s small and hard to spot because it looks like an asphalt company, with only the lit “rooms available” sign marking it as a motel. If nobody seems to be around, call the posted number. The owner patiently walked me through finding a key and arranging card payment by phone.

The man I spoke with was polite and caring. I may have woken him or kept him up when I called after midnight to ask about a room, but he still answered. My cousin and I couldn’t find anything in Sioux Falls within our budget, and he took us in. It took us a few minutes to locate the motel, since it’s set back from the road. The outside isn’t fancy, but we were both amused by what was in the room. It had more than some fancy hotels, and smelled nice, unlike places that just smell like the heater or AC. I used to work at a 5 star hotel, so I know this isn’t one, but it’s a decent family tan/operated small-town place to crash for a night. I checked the reviews after booking and saw comments about dirty sheets, so I checked ours. They were far from dirty. Thanks Jamie
