Holiday Inn Express & Suites Canon City by IHG

What stayed with us was the response to our medical emergency. The General Managers response was: “We fully empathize with you but blaming the hotel for your personal problems does not go well with any more consideration.” It felt confrontational when we were hoping for some empathy. We took the matter to IHG Guest Relations, but they upheld the hotel’s decision. We had booked the Holiday Inn Express in Canon City, Colorado with IHG Rewards points. As an IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite member, we stay with IHG often and have generally had good experiences. A medical emergency meant we couldn’t travel. We contacted the hotel as soon as we knew, explained what happened, and asked whether we could move the booking to the next day because we were already outside the cancellation window. In the end, the medical situation meant we couldn’t travel at all. We understand hotels have cancellation policies and weren’t disputing the policy itself. Still, a little understanding during a genuine medical emergency can go a long way, and we hope they handle similar situations with more empathy in future.

The bed was extraordinarily comfortable, and having laundry and a gym on site was a real plus. The pool looked like a lot of fun, too. Breakfast included some high-protein and healthy choices, and coffee was available on demand all the time, which was especially nice with my odd work shifts. Everyone was so friendly, and the rooms were great. This is the best hotel I’ve stayed at for business travel. I don’t usually stay at IHG properties, but this one was SO awesome. I’ll definitely book here again when I’m back in the area.

The rooms are spacious and very clean, and everything seems well looked after. A sliding door separates the sleeping area from the bathroom, so guests can shower or make coffee without disturbing someone who’s asleep. The wall-mounted thermostat is easy to use, and the beds are comfy. I’ll stay here again next time I’m in the area.

The staff were lovely and suggested a top-floor room so we could avoid the noisy kids in town for the Christmas Royal Gorge Route. The beds were big and comfortable, and smelled of bleach, so they were definitely clean. We had a great view, too. The way in from the road is a bit odd, and the elevator had dried sticky liquid all over it for the entire overnight stay.
