The manager checked in with us the next morning, and everyone was friendly when we left. The suite turned out to be large and really nice, and once the replacement AC had run for a while it got delightfully cool. It had been a bit warm at first, so we turned the unit off in the middle of the night because DH likes warmer temperatures. The manager also walked us to the room to make sure it was all right. We were in Canton for the Spoon River Drive and had booked online at EconoLodge. The system apparently gave us the last room, which needed a new AC unit, so management was scrambling to replace it when we arrived. They were very nice and apologetic about the delay, and the room was ready in about ten minutes. EconoLodge doesn’t always have the best reputation among travelers, but this motel was superb. We’d definitely stay again.

The beds were filthy, and I saw cockroaches crawling on the end table. At the desk, staff were rude and wouldn't give us a refund. We had booked a room with two queen beds for four people, but after arriving they demanded $20 cash for each person beyond the first two, saying it was company policy. We asked for a receipt and they said they didn't have one. The customer service was awful. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

The room smelled of urine, and the bedding looked dingy and stained. There seemed to be blood on the comforter, and the chair was stained too. I checked for bugs before lying down. The TV remote felt sticky, and the air and heat unit filters were filthy and clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. I woke up sneezing. The toilet was small and gross, with urine and other residue visible on the outside and around the seat hinges. The towels and washcloths looked like they were from the '90s, thin enough to see through and coming apart. The first room I was sent to was either occupied or hadn't been cleaned. The next one was better, but not by much. Breakfast was meant to start at 6:00 a.m., but the employee didn't turn on the lights until 6:08. There was no food or drink available before I had to leave for work. I paid $90-$100 for the night, and it wasn't worth it. I took photos, but the site won't let me post them.

The beds were comfortable, and the shower was clean with plenty of hot water. The breakfast area was clean too. But there was dirt piled in two bathroom corners, and the tissue box was still empty after I told the front desk. There was no elevator, and the lobby's padded chairs were cracked and had pieces of covering missing. For a room with two double beds, we only got one washcloth, one hand towel, and two bath towels. The ice machine had no ice.

We stay here for our Spoon River Drive shows, and the night lady is really nice and helpful. The beds are comfy, with lots of hot water. But when we checked out, we saw the owner's wife making a bed without changing the sheets. Nasty!
