You’re mostly paying for the location. Cabin 56 was very basic but okay, with decent beds, a bathroom and a table. The heater was noisy, and parking was tight, with too few spaces for the guests. A couple of people even parked behind the road-closed sign. The cabin had Wi-Fi and cell service, but neither worked there. I had an urgent internet need because some things had gone wrong at home. Verizon worked in parts of the property and at certain times, though it failed at others. It worked most of the time overall. The ice machines were shut off because of the weather, so we had to go to the nearest lodge. There was only a coffee maker and a fan in the room, and no built-in USB ports, so bring your chargers. Great spot, but the amenities feel limited for the price.

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is very close, and the upper falls crest is a must in the morning if you want to catch rainbows. The viewpoints on both rims are worth stopping at, but the crest puts you just feet from the edge and lets you see the water as it falls. Our third-floor room had a sloped ceiling like an attic bedroom. I hit my head on it three times, cursing louder each time. They couldn't move us to another room. Maybe paying more for a better room on the first or second floor would have avoided it. Lesson learned. Food at the "Village" was disappointing. The burgers, hot dogs, and stringy chicken breast sandwiches were the same frozen fare found around the park. There are three doors for supposedly different restaurants, but inside it's one long dining hall and the food comes from the same kitchen. The "Bar and grill" did have a chicken pot pie that was a welcome change and actually tasty, though pricey. The "cafeteria" was expensive and looked like a community college cafeteria. I'd buy lunch meat and a cooler, then make sandwiches for one of the park's scenic picnic areas.

The cabin location is handy for exploring Yellowstone, and that was the one thing that kept this from a 1. For $500 a night, though, I felt shortchanged. The hot water ran out halfway through my shower, so I had to finish in cold water, and there wasn't even a fireplace. In Banff we paid under $400 a night for a cabin with a fireplace that was better in every way. I'd choose Banff over Yellowstone lodging any day. At checkout, they also held a one-night deposit. When I asked the front desk about it, they seemed visibly annoyed and weren't helpful. That isn't the service I'd expect at this price. 2/5.

Great place to stay while traveling through Yellowstone. The cabin was nicely decorated and really cute inside, even though the outside gives away that it isn't newly built. The bathroom had a huge tub, nice shampoo, conditioner and body wash, plus a heat light. There was also a separate vanity just outside the bathroom.

May 2026: Spacious enough rooms, clean, and well located. The built-in nightlight was so bright I had to cover it to sleep. The sink is open to the bedroom, which isn't unusual, and the housekeeping staff were still training for the season, so there were a few slip-ups. Parking looks like it'll be a nightmare in high season.
