Starlight Hotel

This was my second stay, and I still think it’s a nice, modern, cute hotel. But the room maintenance needs work. This time I was really disappointed to see mold on the curtains touching one of the beds, plus a few stains on the sheets. I recommend the hotel overall, but please make sure things are extra clean and less hazardous for future guests. Thanks again for having me.

The location is excellent, a short walk from downtown Flushing, the 7 train, and the LIRR, with the Skyview Shops right next door. Just expect noise from the streets and train tracks. We spent three nights in a City View Suite. The hotel looks modern inside and out, but upkeep needs significant improvement. One leg was missing from the pull-out sofa, and the swing-out desk on another sofa was unstable. There was no body wash in the shower. We told the front desk, and the staff member was courteous, but it was never replenished. The suite is spacious but a bit bare, with no closet, just a standing coat rack. Breakfast was very basic, just coffee and a very limited selection of bread and cereal.

Outside the room, noise was a real problem during the stay, including a sound like a smoke alarm, and it made sleep difficult. The hotel is non-smoking, but there was a constant smell of weed. I was told everything was confirmed through booking.com, and my Booking.com app showed a confirmed reservation. At the property, though, they said it had been canceled because my card was declined. I never received a cancellation notice, and my card showed no attempted charge. They told me to book another room. The lack of communication and the problems during the stay made this experience very disappointing.

The price was just right, and we’d stay here again. We spent four nights in a smallish but quiet room, though the air conditioner was very loud and hard to sleep through. The floor had a small crack and breakfast was tiny, but neither bothered us much since we weren’t there to avoid eating out. The nearby mall was helpful, staff kept to themselves without being unfriendly, and the 7 train is a short walk away. There are good food options around Flushing, one of the most interesting places we’ve visited. Mandarin and Cantonese are the main languages, but we weren’t treated poorly as tourists. The area felt fascinating and culturally unique. Can’t complain.
