Long Beach Motor Inn

At $325 a night, I expected to feel welcome. Instead, after returning from the beach and heading to the pool, management stopped us and said we had to rinse off first. The hose was across the street, near someone’s window, and they walked us over it and watched while we rinsed our feet. It was awkward and inconvenient. A hose and sign by the pool would make more sense. The room itself was dated but clean, with a small kitchen that had no paper towels, dish soap, or sponge. There were no toiletries in the bathroom, and the towels were small and scratchy. We won’t be back.

This was our fourth year here, and we had another memorable week. Gary and Susan are so nice, and Gary keeps the landscaping looking tidy and beautiful. We loved having a kitchenette, and the room was super clean. The week was very hot, so the crystal-clear pool was a lovely place to cool down. We also had a picnic in the gazebo right beside it. Mornings on the porch, with coffee and a perfect view of the ocean and Nubble Light House, were hard to beat. See you both next year!

We went three years ago, and we never plan to return. The place had a strange, creepy feeling, like the hotel in the movie Vacancy, and the furniture and bedding looked like they were from 1925. It felt like stepping back into the 1950s. When we turned on the TV, there was a picture within the picture showing the owners’ head monitoring everything. We also had some odd interactions with whoever was managing the place. My daughter had a panic attack and couldn’t sleep because she thought she was going to be murdered.

The location made it easy to get to the beach and walk to decent food, and the room was clean. The kids had plenty to do with the pool and shuffle/tetherboard. Gary was attentive and helpful, and you can tell he works hard. The no-drinks rule in the pool area seemed a little bonkers. We were asked to leave with our ice water, though we respected the rule. We’d stay again.
