The hotel and breakfast were nice, but basic service fell short. There was no hot water for our entire stay. The person at the front desk said the hotel was booked to capacity. I tried again in the morning, with the same result. The manager told me he was new and didn’t know what he was allowed to do. I took him at his word and left my name, number, and details of the problem. It’s been two days, and nobody has contacted me. A hot shower is one of the most basic things to expect at a hotel, and I didn’t get one, even after an eight-hour drive. I raised the issue politely and respectfully, and no guest should be treated this way. I hope someone will reach out and make amends.

Breakfast was barely available: people stood in a long omelet line, and there wasn’t enough for everyone. With just one waiter on the floor, getting coffee or a refill was nearly impossible. If breakfast is advertised as included, I think guests should be able to expect a decent meal. Check-in also took forever. Then, a month later, the hotel called demanding an extra $22 “hotel charge,” even though I’d prepaid everything online. Watch out for hidden charges if you stay at Anthracite Hotel. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

We came for a small convention and found this to be a very fine boutique hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, service was good, and breakfast was fair. The location was perfect, with great restaurants, entertainment, and shopping in the Carbondale area. There’s also a decent trail nearby between towns. Just remember your streaming passwords, since they don’t have “normal” TV.

There are lots of food and drink options around this hotel in the middle of a small town. It also hosts weddings and parties, with a nice courtyard for sitting outside or taking pictures. We had a nice room and enjoyed our two-night stay. The fridge compressor was rather loud, and the internet wasn’t good. We gave up trying to stream anything on the TV.

The atmosphere was wonderful, parking was good, and breakfast service was fantastic. There was nowhere to hang clothes or coats in the room, no closet or rack at all. There were no USB ports either, so bring your own plug-ins.
