La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Carlsbad

We were on the second floor and heard a lot of stomping from above, so I’d try for the third floor next time. That noise is why I’m giving it 4/4. Parking was plentiful, and the lot on the right side of the building has an entrance straight to the elevator, which saves you from crossing the lobby. The cleanliness really surprised me, in a good way. Our room, carpet, beds, lobby, and breakfast area all looked spotless. The room cleaners were sweet too, leaving us candies each day after cleaning. Breakfast was hot and had plenty to choose from: eggs, sausage, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, toast, and bagels, plus coffee, water, apple juice, and orange juice. I was a little nervous since I’d never stayed at a La Quinta before, but this stay changed my mind.

The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, and my room was really clean with everything in working order. A few things around the hotel weren’t operating, which I guess can happen. The staff were friendly, and I was very impressed with how clean the place was overall.

If you're headed to the caverns, this motel is on the South side of Carlsbad, so getting there is easy. It's also handy for Sitting Bull Falls, which I highly recommend. Our room was clean and smelled fresh when we arrived. We stayed a couple of nights, and Leanne was a big help throughout. She represented La Quinta/Wyndham really well.

The breakfast was pretty good, and the rooms are nice. The TV took some figuring out, though. You have to use the buttons on the bottom to get it to the right channel, or call maintenance for help. The main problem is the noise. The hotel is right by the north-south highway, with LOTS of traffic, and it’s very loud. Handicap parking is around the side instead of out front, so you have to use a side door. That was the only parking spot with ice and snow on it. I asked the front desk to have maintenance shovel it, but they never did.
