Super 8 Carlsbad

There’s no elevator, so expect to climb stairs, which is especially fun if your knees are held together by hopes and prayers. We came downstairs hoping for at least coffee because the website says breakfast is offered, only to hear, “No, we’re remodeling.” Apparently remodeling doesn’t stop them from advertising breakfast. Maybe the website is under construction too. The beds felt like sleeping on a wooden plank with a sheet for a blanket. I’ve had more comfortable naps in my car. The front desk woman seemed absolutely thrilled to be there, truly inspirational. One night was all the character development I needed. I’m breaking up with Super 8 nationwide. If I could give zero stars, I would.

The location worked for us, and the actual bed was okay, but parking was insufficient. We weren’t impressed with the service. We booked a king room on the Wyndham app, which said a light breakfast would be available. At check-in, a sign said breakfast wouldn’t be served, and they had no king rooms. We stayed two days and saw someone at the front desk only once.

I was angry at how dismissive the manager was about a broken washer and dryer. The washer wouldn’t drain, so I had to wring out the clothes by hand before putting them in the dryer. The manager blamed overloading, but I had less than half a load. Forty minutes later the clothes were still very wet, so I paid another $2 for a cycle. After another 40 minutes, they were still wet and the dryer wasn’t hot. I packed everything to take to a laundromat and told the manager. He said it wasn’t his problem because they don’t own the machines or make money from them. I asked him to at least put up an out of order sign so other guests wouldn’t waste money too. I checked the next day and there still wasn’t one. He kept saying there was nothing he could do and acted like it wasn’t his issue. He could have reimbursed me and contacted whoever runs the machines. He clearly didn’t care about the problem or about other guests having the same experience.

The location was awful, on the construction side of town, and the beds were firm and uncomfortable. Service was horrible. They charged customers for stains on the white towels and scammed them. We paid for breakfast, but there wasn’t any and they gave no money back. I’d never go again. I hope it gets torn down for good.
